MG Midget and Sprite General - E Bay madness ?
Why is a new NOS ribcase gearbox casing/bellhousing worth £150 and a remote £45. Item 270735774597 Never thought the casing wore out - or am I missing something here ? - that makes my spare gearboxes worth a lot of money - LOL.

The remote doesn't even have provision for a reverse light switch.

because gear casings do wear and I've heard a rebuilder say that quite a few boxes given to them for rebuilding are beyond the point of no return. A bit like lever arm shocks and A-pans that have been rebuilt several times. If you are going to spend 1k on a SCCR or 2k on a dog box then you might as well start with the best casing available.

Yes they do wear out. I rebuilt my gearbox. The parts cost me about $900 (600 GBP) and the only bit I'm not happy about is the housing. The bit where the front bearing presses into is a bit sloppy. Either bearing had spun or more likely the bush in the back of the crank was stuffed. Also laygear had too much end float so needed a thicker thrust washer made up. My car has only 68k miles on it so they don't last for ever. A new one at my door for less than 200 would have been worth considering. A secondhand gearbox may not be worth a lot because when you get it apart you may find it's no better than what you've already got.
