MG Midget and Sprite General - Did Queensland offend someone?

$5billion repair bill for public infrastructure from recent flood damage, now the mother of all cyclones heading for Cairns. Winds of 280kph (180mph) and it's 500km (300 miles) across. Expected to land after midnight local time tomorrow night.
Never dull in sunshine state.

And in the US you are about to get her sister in the form of snow and ice. We'll be thinking of you.
Imagine how cold it would be if we didn't have global warming.

Battern down Cairns here it comes again! Just can't win up there, I hope it doesn't come down much lower as I have a son in Gladstone and a sister in Marybrough.Lets hope it loses some intensity before it reaches land.

The cyclone tried to take out the only bit of Queensland that didn't go under in the floods!
Thankfully no deaths or major injury. Major population centres suffered only lightly. The big hits were taken by some small farming towns and the farms themselves.
I'm attributing the less than expected impact to outstanding disaster planning and management, and improved construction standards in recent years that insist on cyclone-proof buildings.
I've seen shots of this storm superimposed over UK and USA - it totally covered UK and about 1/4 of USA. What a monster.

I read a story before it hit there were people outside shelters and they were not being let in.
One had a Dad and Mom and a 2 year old daughter and a son and the Dad was saying "We're just hoping they change their minds and let us in".
Where did all those people go?
I also read the Government send some buses around and collected some people.
I hope everyone got to safety, with 180 MPH winds and 40 foot waves no one would last long outside.
