MG Midget and Sprite General - Color Blind.......
| I purchased these two seats yesterday off of craigslist. They were asking $850, and I got them for $650... I like them a lot better than the bucket cobras that were in place when I bought the car. My question is. Are they black??? I think they are... In most light they look black. But in some light there is a blue hue to them. Can some one who has a Navy color interior post a picture??? Are these seats Black or Blue (Navy)???? Thanks Ken

They look black to me You wont get an accurate color rep just because of all the elctronics and sotware interupatations ... One computers hi res black is anothers windows 95 energy conservation mode dark gray
Prop
Hard to tell from the photos, but the squabs look blue and the cushions look black. $650? I've paid less than that for a car!
D O'Neill
Dave The add-on blue seat tint cost extra...$500 extra...LOL Prop

I genuinely am colour blind but they look black to me. The Navy blue trim is definitely bluer than that!
Matt1275Bucks
| A picture with one of the seats with a "black" shoe. I thought the price was good...... Two seats, with old frames and rails sanded and repainted, new foam, new webbing, and hopfully new "black" covers......

My blue seats look a bit black in photos. I think yours are blue too.

The shoes look green to me!
Gary & Gaps
navy blue
David Smith
If you can't tell the difference is there really a problem? I still think they're black but I did once buy a pair of green suede brogues thinking they were brown!
Matt1275Bucks
Roses are red, violets are blue, your door cards are beige, and your your seats aren't blue :)
Lawrence Slater
They are very very dark blue. I had to use a black cat to check - luckily I had one to hand.
Ally
I went into a shop for a black belt, the assistant came back with a grey one and suggested that it was light black. My seats look black in any light.
P Ottewell
I went into a shop for a black belt too. The assistant jumped over the counter and gave me karate chop, and a black eye. Now everything looks red and purple. lol
Lawrence Slater
A little predictable Lawrence lol
P Ottewell
Yup, I'd never make any money as a stand up. :)
Lawrence Slater
(dark) navy blue looks black unless very new and/or clean seen with the roof down in sunlight I know this as many years ago a friend of the wife's (oh, eeer) had a B with navy interior that he insisted was black so I clean one seat to prove him wrong and left him to clean the rest of the black but really blue interior - turned out the other seat was black! I've also had two navy door interior pull handles in my present black interior Midget but didn't notice for ages someone correct me if I'm wrong now please - black cloth isn't real black it's a very concentrated dark blue, brown or green - same for plastics(?) black is the almost total absorption of light (if I remember 4th year physics)

You mean a black hole Nigel. ha ha
Lawrence Slater
I had navy blue seats which I re-covered in black, but didn't change the headrests and you cannot really tell the difference in colour. I imagine though that the blue plastic used over the years will vary from one batch to another, so some may be distinctly blue, and some may be virtually black. It doesn't really matter what colour it is called so long as it looks right.

perhaps I mean non-reflection Lawrence you mean Prop the batches of navy I've seen all lok black (or perhaps they were black?)
N Atkins
Ha ha Nigel, perhaps I do. Btw, why is Props car a "black hole midget"? Is this a reference to money poured in, or something satanic?
Lawrence Slater
Lawrence I realise you came here but recently. And of course we'd all love to enlighten you but. If we told you we'd... Well you know, we would and we're just getting used to you. It'ld be a shame. ( I bet this is deep in the archives for a discerning chap to fettle out for himself ) Clue have you seen mention of Rhino Truck Bed Liner around? saynomoredigestiveknowwhatImean squire

Ken...Blue and very nice

Bill "saynomoredigestiveknowwhatImean squire" he he, you forgot "nudgenudgewinkwink" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jT3_UCm1A5I

The temptation to turn out a complete Python thread is strong in me Lawrence But manfully (ish) I can just control it I hardly ever go mountaineering along a craggy mantelpiece either I deny forgetting Nudge... or Candid, know what I... Does your wife? :-) Er, have you isolated Rhino Truck Bed Liner yet? The goat's just... ;-)
Bill 1 :)
The truck bed liner was in a thread about the engine getting hot not so long ago, but I'll have to dig further back it seems to find out why his car is a black hole it seems. The goats just -- ? Is this monty too? Hmmm. Yes plenty of material for a monty thread, esp if they ever featured a midget. (vehicle variety that is)
Lawrence Slater
If the black seats are blue, but good enough, you can make them blacker than blue with a vinyly colour spray paint. Used to be sold in the UK as Vinylcote or something like that. If they are leather then specialists will sell you leather dyes that work equally well. On the other hand, if you have to ask if the black seats are blue or not then they must to you at least be black enough to be mistaken for black if you see what I mean. The best solution is to sit on them. It is then quite difficult to see nwhat the colour is. Whilst sitting there go for a drive as this will further distract you from blue thoughts.

Ah, so now I know.:) "But the way it really got its name I coated the engine bay with rhinno truck bed liner and because it was black and no engine in the hole... the name just fit and became "The Black Hole Midget" Prop" Good name.
Lawrence Slater
A fruitful search Lawrence we trust you enjoyed it :) "some" of us would prefer he painted over that heat absorbing color (sic) so that his poor bloody engine could come out into the "less hot"...
Bill 1 :)
My last Midget had blue seats with black head restraints...
|
Dave O'Neill2
| Ok... so they are Blue...... Started the transformation them today to Black. I started with the headrests…. -Cleaned the hell out of them (to remove the dirt and protectants). -Sprayed them with an adhesion promoter. -Then with Rust-oleum Vinyl dye/paint…

Oh yes, blue! Told you I was colour blind!
Matt1275Bucks
Ken Yes, they certainly look black now. Lawrence <<Yes plenty of material for a monty thread, esp if they ever featured a midget>> You've obviously forgotten 'upper class twit of the year' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5ba1OKY7Xc Midget can be seen at 2:09 There are two different versions on U-tube, which is very confusing. The first version I found featured an E-type and a Spitfire.
Dave O'Neill2
I've never seen the navy blue look so blue, they look good that blue - I'd keep 'em that color :) so sad to see that Python clip as 40 years on and we still have the upper class twits and their off-spring
Nigel Atkins
Monty pythons. A true classic. great shots of the b and midge too.
