MG Midget and Sprite General - Cobra Classic CS Seats.

Thinking about fitting a pair of bucket seats, anybody used these ?
Do you need the fitting frames as they seem expensive for metal runners - other than bolt direct to floor but no adjustment - any other options ?

Seem to be a bit narrower than the original '72 recliners so think they will increase hood down/rollbar clearance and thinner at the back to increase leg length etc.

What's the clearance against the B post like if you have them all the way back?

Hey Richard,
Are they the same style as these? Have we had this conversation already?

Hi Neil - I'm trying to work out fixing as I'm not as tall as you and would like some adjustment and not sure if the Cobra runner frames jack the seats up a lot etc.

Yes I remember you pics thanks.

They will do cloth centre panels to order as well.

When I visited Merlin Motorsport to see the seats, they suggested that if I brought the car down, minus a seat, I could try placing one in the space to see how it fitted. You wouldn't be too far from Castle Coombe to do that if they were willing. It's the roll bar that causes the problem. I take it that you have a roll bar?

Perhaps a silly question Neil. Are the headrests fixed or can they be taken out (to fit a tonnaux cover etc.

What I done several times was to spanner out the driver's seat and runners whilst at seat manufacturer's so that I could trial fit the new driver's seat or at least sit it in on the drivers side and check you can get in and out and the seat doesn't foul anything in your normal driving position and that you can move it fore and arft

Easier to get seats in and out with a soft top too, don't forget to check new seat for all above with roof up and allow for the difference when the seat is on its runners if it's just sitting on the floor

Gary,
The headrests are fixed. The standard tonneau won't fit. My quick fix for this is a piece of pond liner with eyelets fitted and the use of bungees. Totally waterproof, light and cheap. Cost £15.

The pic shows is just draped over the car to keep the sun off last year in France

Hmmmm, I think I'll stick with the Bermuda top :0)

Hi Richard, not thinking of changing those lovely seats in your midget, they looked really nice when I visited you,
Anyway on the subject of seats, lots of people seem to be fitting MGF seats, if you can get a decent pair of leather ones they look good, hence the price is rising so many people want them, I prefer the old frogeye seats or MK1 midget seats. They are also getting hard to find and are costly.

cheers Jack

I have seats like the ones pictured above, but without the head rests. I am unsure of who made them as there is no name or tags on them. (The PO installed them.) There are very comfortable once you are in, but the sides of the seats make it a little tricky entering and exiting the car....
