James, I found that using simple vinyl lettering I bought from a local sign shop and some white magnetic sign material cut into a 12" diameter circle worked great and was easy to remove if you wanted to. I use that for all my racing decals and numbers now. Not too expensive and easy to change numbers if you want.

| I also bought some white magnetic sign material (from eBay)cut to 18 inches (I think) using a lamp shade as a template. They've been good up to 113pmh so far.

I seem to recall that the MSA states that if the roundals/squares are magnetic then they have to be secondary secured with adhesive tape to avoid them coming off in competition. Also as an aside, if the Magnetics are applied incorrectly then they can do nasty damage to the paintwork. We advise potential customers against their use on vehicles or at least get them to sign a damage waiver before supplying them. The panels (both car and back of magnetics) need to be washed thoroughly before applying the magnetics and any grit or silt build up that gets behind the magnetics can act just the same as an orbital sander on the car body due to vibration. Sorry to be a doom monger! A.

It is (or at least was) an offence to display numbers on a vehicle. I know that if you are an MSA licance holder, it is forbidden. Displaying numbers on your Spridget may give the 'wrong impression'..... Have you considered actulaly doing some competition work with your Spridget and display numbers legitimatly...? You'll love it.... :-) Mark.

"It is (or at least was) an offence to display numbers on a vehicle. I know that if you are an MSA licance holder, it is forbidden." It was never an offence, nor forbidden by the MSA. It was and is, however, actively discouraged. The reasoning being that it indicates a vehicle is (may be) competing on the Public Highway which is illegal without an MSA Organiser's Permit (eg a Stage Rally), and cause for a 'Tug' from the Rozzers. Competitors that drive their vehicles to Race Meetings (if anyone still does) are encouraged to tape a cross over the numbers. Personally I think that anyone carrying race numbers on a non-competition car (other than race replicas and historics) is a bit naff (or even a Ned/Chav)!

Not illegal indeed as Debs rightly points out but a good reason for the police to stop you. I was "asked" by the RACMSA on one occassion to tape over my number on a race car that I had driven to the circuit. On that occassion the Clerk of the course had seen my car on the way to the circuit. (Not sure if I had passe him on route!?) LOL Totally agree with Mark it is far nicer to have good reason to use numbers and enjoy the competition Perhaps you already do and good luck if that is the case.

I stand corrected Deborah. Like you, I don't like to see numbers on non-competition cars for the very same reasons. Mark.

If, they are still on my car to and from an event, they are ALWAYS taped. The condition of my paintwork (as many will attest) is not usually at the top of my worry list. Only once have I been asked by scrutineers to tape my roundels and then only on the leading edge.
