MG Midget and Sprite General - Chrome platers
Can any one recommend a good chrome plater in the UK, I need to get a pair of Frogeye bumperettes re-done. I considered using current Morgan stainless over-riders which appear to be the same pattern in stainless but they would have cost more than the car did (seriously!) Thanks, Paul

Paul, When I bought my MK 1 "Project" it came with a bag of small parts that had been re-chromed. They look pretty good although there is some yellow staining which I hope is just that they need polishing! So this isn't a recommendation as such but the receipt is from: Peacock and Trelfa Ltd., Craigton Industrial Estate, Cardonald, Glasgow. G52 1BQ. I can't find a website for them. Guy

Sorry Paul, A companies search on that Glasgow firm shows it as "in liqudation". Explains why they don't have a website!

To be honest you'd be better off buying new from AH Spares. I bought some 20 years ago and have never polished them yet they still look like new. In contrast to 'replating work' I've had done which never lasted at all.

Paul One of the best platers in the UK are these people: Derby Plating Services Ltd 148 Abbey Street Derby DE22 3SS Tel/Fax: 01332 382408 E-mail: We prefer the phone! But unfortunately they arnt near you in Cumbria. Ian

Thanks, I'll probably re-plate them, they were new, the chrome was rubbish and corroded quickly, it'll depend on the relative costs of course.

I've used 'Chrome Restoration' in the Midlands several times. Had my Frogeye grill, gear lever and brake handle done. Very pleased. Also had other parts for other Midgets done too. Tel No. 01785 212878 02476 364004 Neil
