MG Midget and Sprite General - Carrier help
I have had a problem with an Ebay purchase of 4 wheels and tyres. I bought the items from Bristol MG Workshop I specifically asked them for a description of the tyres for type size and tread depth The answer was that the tyres were Almost new!! Great I thought and won the auction, however when they arrived there was hardly one good tyre amongst the 4 and so a long drawn out episode ensued. I escalated the case and have now been instructed by ebay to arrange for he wheels and tyres to be returned to them at my cost (not happy with that however they have to refund full purchase price and original dilivery charges. My question is I need a cheap carrier to get these from Scunny to Bristol. I need to give details of tracking infomation to E bay that they can verify online. Help from those who use this kind of service please.

I have used interparcel.com numerous times to good effect... Dave

yedl r pretty good, and they seem to be the ones that delivered all the tyres i have bought recently
Mick - still wiring!!
Bob, I have used the http://www.parcel2go.com web site for tyre and wheel deliveries before. It provides quotes from a number of the main couriers. With larger tyres I send them as pairs, (2 parcels = 4 tyres) Smaller sizes will go as a single parcel. They don't need to be fully wrapped, just taped together with a few yards of Duct Tape. Alternatively, you could try for a bid on http://www.shiply.com/ although the courier services are surprisingly cheap.

+1 for http://www.parcel2go.com/ also http://www.parcelbroker.co.uk/ and http://www.worldwide-parcelservices.co.uk/ebay and http://www.transglobal.org.uk/ |

My vote is for DHL through Parcelbroker. If these are wheels AND Tyres I think individual wrapping will be called for. I use a bin bag and parcel tape, make sure the label doesnt get separated from the wheel or they will get lost. Full tracking is available. Whatever happens, at all costs, never, ever, ever choose the "Yodel" operation. Especially as delivery is in Bristol, which is the worst depot in the history of parcel carriers IMO. They may be cheap, but delivery is patchy, losses are frequent and communication is zero. HTH Max

Max, Yodel is DHL. Or rather the bit of DHL that operated for retail deliveries was bought out and re-branded Yodel last year. You can still see the old DHL lettering through the paint on lots of the Yodel vans!

Indeed, Yodel = DHL = shocking (IME). I use UPS via Interparcel (if you choose Interparcel Economy, it is UPS, and often 24hr), £8 for up to 30 kgs. I recently sent an engine to Finland for £65 using this method, rather than the £200+ some of the pallet companies wanted. DH2

No, no, no, no, no it's not! DHL sold Yodel off last year, which was when they re-branded. Ask your local DHL driver...at least, DON'T ask your local DHL driver if you have got 20 minutes for a tirade against Yodel. We used them as DHL and the service deteriorated, they sold it and re-branded and it got shocking. We now use the proper DHL again - a couple of quid more expensive but more reliable. As I type I'm waiting for a proper DHL man to collect 1 x wheel with tyre on (like Bob's original question) and 2 x racewear.co.uk parcels. In about 30 years of mail order, I've used them all and I have to say that DHL at the moment are the best.

Just as I pressed send, so my DHL driver arrived....I nearly got the packages rammed where the sun don't shine when i told him you all thought he was Yodel in disguise!

Max, Read my message again! I didn't say that DHL was Yodel. I said that Yodel bought the retail (Business to customer) delivery service from DHL. I know that DHL still exists in its own right, The bit that Yodel bought out was only a part of the DHL business.

Well thanks for all that I will browse the suggestions and send the rubbish back!

If you haven't used parcel2go before, sign up to quidco.com (its a cash back site) as you will get 20% of parcel2go as a first time user.

Guy, I didn't say you did say, but read the message between us: >>>>>>> DH2, UK Indeed, Yodel = DHL = shocking (IME). Parcel2go are good, they often have discount codes on their Facebook site, David S put me the way of Parcelbroker who are normally a little bit cheaper and have better customer service. Mind you, it often depends on the local depot. We're really lucky with some brilliantly helpful drivers, but I'm sure it's different in busy cities where the pressure's on. It's a thankless job.
