MG Midget and Sprite General - Bumperless 1500 Exhaust

After removing my rumber bumpers last year the exhaust pipe has been really bugging me. It is just to in your face when you look at the back of the car, what have people done with there exhaust pipes when they have removed there bumpers? Is there a way I can make it shorter or is it a new exhaust pipe.
N Allen

fitted a single box sports exhaust which does away with the box across the back and exits on the NSR...

V loud and grin making :o)

MGmike
M McAndrew

Fitted a Harley Screamin' Eagle.
Definitely a rumbler!!

Where can you get these single box exhaust from?
N Allen

Far to tight to buy a new exhaust so simply lopped off the back box clamped it longitudinally and fitted an ever so glamorous diesel chrome tip. Sounds the same as standard and you can't see the tailpipe now but I think I've lost about 1bhp:-(

Andrew Dunn

Andrew that was one option I was thinking about doing. Did you cut out the small box and just put the big back box in place instead?
N Allen

Yup - that's exactly what I did. It was a while ago but I don't think any welding was involved. I just had to measure it carefully prior to cutting out the small box.
This was the finished look

Andrew Dunn

Andrew, that's a really clean look.
What year is the car?
Rick Bastedo

Rick

It started life as a 1977 1500 rubber bumper - it's evolved into a 3" lower, bumperless 1500 with glass front

Andrew Dunn

Crumbs Andrew!!

That looks gorgeous :)

Malcolm Le Chevalier

How did you get the back valance to look like that?
I'm in awe, you are my new hero.

Thanks for kind comments - I did a bit of a thread on the rebuild a couple of years ago - this is the link to the archived thread:

Direct links to the archive wont work. The BBS removes the access=

Members can manually add their unique Access number (after access= in the url for any current page) after the "access=" in the Andrew's URL and it will work.
