MG Midget and Sprite General - Brakes sticking on for a split second

Just bought another car , has new remote servo and master cylinder . When you brake its like the servo is holding the brakes on for a split second after you release them . Could it be a dodgy servo?. Anybody else come acros this before? Thanks Roy

dunno but you can disconnect the servo and test without it...

I have had a remote servo on my car for a number of years. I also get the feeling that for a micro second the brakes appear to stay on when released. It has not caused me undue concern and I imagined after I had fitted it that perhaps the servo was slightly lazy. Maybe it is a feature of the system?

I never had a servo.... but i did have an issue with a rebuilt caliper piston sticking...the pistons in some of the new rebuilt calipers are high carbon steel and love to rust if sat long ....just something to consider....if that is the cause they do make a stainless steel piston

Also the rubber brake hoses can go bad inside and yet look fine on the outside and this can slow the brake caliper return

Good luck

Check the one way valve in the vacuum pipe is working, I've even see two of these fitted in line with no diverse effects...

Echoing Mark, I once had a check valve in a Honda get sticky, and boost tended to come and go. Made braking a bit interesting! I had to replace the entire hose that contained the valve, but the fix was quick, easy, and completely effective.

Probably your servo, i changed mine last due to it being the most expensive when i had a similar problem.

Vacuum problems will only cause a failure to provide boost. For stioky or locked brakes, see my recent post on the Magnette board. Also, any debris in the line between MC and servo can have the same effect.

In my opinion, you DON'T need a brake servo on a Spridget, just make sure your brakes are all working properly and use good quality pads.

Mark how do you suggest people get a "modern" brake feel if they do not put on a Servo?

Not sure anyone has ever stated that it improves brakes? The things it does for me is it gives me a modern feel and I can control braking far better.
