MG Midget and Sprite General - Body strength

I’m basically at the point where I’m ready to re-spray my Midget as a rolling shell. My question is; is there room for improvement with regards to upping its structural rigidity without going mad and fitting a multi point roll cage? I’ve got a normal roll bar at the moment; it’s a ‘78 shell so I’ve got the extra box sections front and back where the bumpers used to be. So, other than the sills and the tunnel, is there a fairly simple way to stiffen up the link between the front and the back end?

Some increase the height of their sills. I have extra braces between the gear-box tunnel and the scuttle rail. There's a certain K in NZ that has a top-hat section over the gearbox tunnel linking the x-member, with a section going up to the scuttle. I've a bar linking the 2 FL top susp mounts.

How extra stiff you might make the body shell depends in part on what springs, dampers and tyres you use.

I welded a 2mm steel plate to my inner sills between the front and rear you can see a picture on my web site.

G Crouch,

Do you have to step over the plate or did you shape it around the door in the end?
