| yech, not a smoothly done conversion at all, is it? sure, there must have been a heck of a lot of work and labor to do, but what a crude conversion. Rather just "toss the body on top of another chassis, and then stick out the fender flares, and shop into the footwells as far as necessary to cover up whatever is there". That thing reminds me of the "jeep" conversions from the '70s, when folks would just toss a small car's body on top of a jeep, or a chopped blazer frame. The 16" (or so) of exposed chassis that was plainly visible underneath was always a visible testimony to the crudity. Actually, a roughly done "hillbilly" jeep conversion like that has more panache, because its roughness only adds to its character. This BMW thing is way too poorly packaged and way too shiny and polished looking so that it is hard to forgive. Smoothly done conversions are like that beautiful XK engined midget. It is way harder to do something that looks "easy" when it is done, than it is to do something that looks like none of the packaging problems were solved. Norm |
