MG Midget and Sprite General - Bentley Boys (NMC)

The picture attached shows a memorial displayed in Glasbury Church on the borders of Herefordshire and Powys, UK. Glen Kidston senior was a benefactor of this Church. The son of Glen Kidston, also called Glen, was a Bentley Boy and is also buried at this church. He has a really interesting background having survived a U boat attack during the First World War and a plane crash before being killed in another plane crash in South Africa. In between he was racing with WO Bentley at Brooklands. How on earth did he come to be laid to rest in Glasbury Church when his family were wealthy business people in the North of England? Any Bentley Boy historians amongst you?

From the Wiki page of George Pearson Glen Kidston http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glen_Kidston

"His gravestone at St. Peter's in Glasbury-upon-Wye on the Welsh borders, his childhood home, reads "Time and tide wait for no man", with a sun dial."

In the 1911 census, he was boarding at school in Barnet and his family was staying at a hotel in London. Three sisters (aged 9, 7 and 4 in that census) were all born in London ... but the fact that the family were in a hotel in London suggests that by 1911 they had left London I suppose.

The death of his father Archibald was registered in the Hay on Wye registration district in 1913. The announcement in The Times says "at his residence Gwernyfed Park, Brecknockshire".

Gwernyfed Park can be found about 2km south of Glasbury http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=317440&Y=238115&A=Y&Z=120

Geoff,
Thank you very much. I have this morning contacted the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon by email and have received a reply describing to me where his grave is. I have tried previously to locate it but have been unsuccessful. I will at some stage, in the future, try again.
You have filled in some gaps for me. Thanks. Glen Kidston appears to have been quite some man.

He looks very near to full-opp lock in the picture... such a great era to be a wealthy man interested in cars and planes.
