MG Midget and Sprite General - AutoSolo

Great to see the pictures of the pre-Midget 50 Autosolo.

If anyone would like another event to have a go at, then I shall be running an Autosolo on Sunday 3rd July at the Night Owl Truckstop on the A5 between Rugby and Crick.

No competition licence is required.

More details at http://www.warwickshiredrivers.co.uk

It will be great to see you there.

Cheers

If this is run anything like the Lincs one was, I recommend everyone on here signs up and goes for a jaunt round the cones.

PeterJMoore

Thanks Peter very kind of you.

Also didn't see young Corry on Sunday so did not get the opportunity to thank him for firstly his display of superb car control around a "dunces hat!" and more importantly his kind words for the organisers. It means alot as at a previous event someone actually complained with some nasty emails and upset people immensely. The kind words from Will and the flowers have hopefully proved where the competitors feelings reside

Oh and between that wonderful car, Will and yourself we were superbly entertained, hope you can return one day.

Loads of Spridgets were entered and the results will be posted shortly!
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Thanks Bob,

I am sure we would all of said something pretty much identical to what Will conjured up under the "speech" chant pressure. It truly was a great day for us and we are glad it was entertaining even to those watching.

Im dying to see the results....
PeterJMoore

Certainly was a great event, well organised and very enjoyable. Beyond me how anuyone could be negative about it, that alone was worth the jet lag.
Paul Walbran

Paul, you dont strike me as the sort who would let something like jet lag get to you :P
PeterJMoore

Need to see the results myself cos I must have been within a second of winning SURELY.. LOL
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Brain fade yes, jet lag no :-) A life-long affliction, doesn't worry any more! Best cure is a heavy right foot ....

Bob - I never got to see the business end under the bonnet - will you be at MG Live?
Paul Walbran

Hi Paul yes I will be at Silverstone for MGLIVE but will be taking my MGA and not the Turbo :(

Here are loads of photos of the MGCC autosolo and also the results.

I was a long way behind young Corry :( but guess what Pete? I have just ordered my hydraulic handbrake cylinder to facilitate HB spins so should gain a few seconds per test. !0 years with an autotest effort has taken its toll (Anyway thats my poor excuse!!)
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Link to autosolo sorry :)

Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

hi Bob, it was a pleasure competing with the Lincolnshire centre. the praise of land owners is a must. we are very fortunate with test sites here in Ireland as a whole.

The Hydraulic handbrake is a must Bob, it will make your life 10 times easier to change direction! also brings out the hooligan a lot more so beware.

Paul, looking forward to seeing you again in a week. should be great craic! roll on more tyre smoke and pylons.

Will
WDT Corry

Looking forward to it Will.
This weekend's objectives: Tyre smoke yes, pylons no!!
I'll probably get too excited on the first and fail on the second (again) :-)
Paul Walbran

Hi Mike

Myself and a couple of other MG owners would like to take part, can you please e-mail me at carl(dot)bintcliffe@ntlworld(dot)co(dot)uk

Cheers Carl

I've done Mike's event, its a good one well organised. Its a relatively tight test and dont fit your best tyres as the surface there chews them up a bit.
Join the Warks Drivers Club its good value £7 for two years IIRC

Thanks for the endorsement Ian

I see that I am competing against a Mr C Bintcliffe but it can't be the same one as he's not in a Midget ;0)

I you fancy doing another Solo right in the same area, Loughborough Car Club have one on the 31 July its an excellent event at an interesting venue.
I hope to compete in that one, another Frog normally does it too....a father & son double entry , but I cant remember their names of the top of my head. See the LCC website for details.
Ian
Ian Webb '73 GAN5

Possibly Ian, although I'm trying to concentrate on getting in a few more Sprints this year and the poor little car can only take so much hooliganism (so I've been told).
Gary & Gaps

Mike where abouts are you based?

We (MGCC north west) are thinking about running an event, but have no direct experience (we run hillclimbs and sprints)
Dan Cusworth

Mr Corry or Will Junior, what an absolute pleasure it was after all these years to meet your dad at Silverstone, I was almost in awe. so tell him so please.

However young Will I have forgotton the suppliers name you gave me for the handbrake master cylinder, can you please tell me again. Cheapest I can find for the W/wood is 38 knicker!! :(

SWMBO says I have to take this autosolo malarky seriously so who am I to argue?

These people may well be good bet for the handbrake Mc/cyl you want :

Bob Green is a very experienced guy when it comes to aftermarket/competion brakes.

Hi Bob,

thank you for the kind words. he has done a lot in his time, the stories keep coming! He enjoyed talking to you at Silverstone. It was good to see you again. The place i egt most of the brake items is Rally design, here is the link to the part you need http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=562_582_583&products_id=4046

also best to ring them, make sure that you order the two unions for the piping, and the connector for the end of the rod, complete with clevis pin and surclip! i suggest the 0.625 as it gives the best 'hit' which will be meag if you are still running midget rear drums! there will be no stopping you.

hope this helps and yes, start getting your teeth stuck into auto solo! hopefully the club can resurrect the tour of Lincs, that would be mega!
Will
WDT Corry

Hi Mike,
A fantastic day although I was let down by the "Talent Limiter" on my car. I was absolutely exhausted by the end of the day but put me down for next year.
I'm ashamed to say that I only came 5th (out of nine) in class. The car performed faultlessly, the driver less so.
Please thank everyone who organised it.
Gary & Gaps

Gary

Great to hear you enjoyed the Solo and it was good to have a quick chat on Sunday.

I see that the Suburu buggy won, but which car was second ?...he was very close to the buggy's time.

When's the next one ??

Ian
Ian Webb '73 GAN5

I think that it was the very excellently driven Nova or the little Japanese FWD Hatchback (but I don't know which make). Both were driven by Autotest specialists and (I believe that ther were) set up accordingly with trick brakes etc.
Same weekend next year as far as I know.
The guy in the Buggy said that he may compete in his Mk1 Sprite next time. I understand that that is also a bit special too (1400cc+ off-set bores with trick suspension and brakes).
Gary & Gaps

Gary
Yes their Frog is fairly well sorted, when we competed against each other last year he beat me (sorry cant remenber his name) but I beat his father.....so it was even.

I meant when is you're next Solo ?

Can you make the 31st July about 5 miles northwest of where you were last weekend; Lougborough Car Club event at Bramscote Barracks.
