MG Midget and Sprite General - ashley gt hardtop info and help
| Recently located an Ashley gt hardtop that is missing the rear flap and never installed on a car I tried emailing the company website with no replies so I am searching for anyone that can help locate one somewhere on a shelf hopefully rather then fabricate a new one http://www.ashleygt.co.uk/ Thanks in advance Alan frogeye@cox.net

the Ashley did not have the kick-up or Kamm tail; Darryl Davis has got hold of the Ashley name but the stuff he's making bears little resemblance to the originals.
David Smith
It looks like they also do the original shaped (non-kamm) tail. However I've no idea of how well it would fit an original top.
Gary & Gaps
David, I am just curious if you went to that site I posted? http:/www.ashleygt.co.uk/ and saw the same pictures I did It sure looks like that same top to me with 2 different tail hinged options at the same price How can one get in touch with this Darryl Davis for more info? Anyone know? Thanks frogeye@cox.net

Try this motobuildracing75@yahoo.co.uk it's the only email that I have for Daryl Davies
Gary & Gaps
yes that's the one I found on that ashleygt site I have not gotten anything back from 3 emails to date Will keep trying though Thanks
Alan Fisher
He probably isn't interested in selling a bootlid. If you emailed him and said you were interested in buying 3 Ashley GT body kits, you'd probably get a response.

"I have not gotten anything back from 3 emails to date" Alan, sorry to say but its run by brits... A very kind bunch of people living on an Island but no intrest in doing buisnes seriously. They may respond or not at all, they may promis you they have it on stock or not at all, they may promise you its send or not at all. Just ring them even tho you have to get up in the middle of the night and it costs a few dollars. Btw, cool project, a V8engine & wheelflares and very nice wheels! Any more info/pictures of your car?

Arie i think your comments are a bit of a massive generalisation on your part dont you think. Let me know when you have conducted your survey of British businesses and have found the percentage rate at which they are not helpfull ! Maybee you could start with adding the ones the have fallen foul of your criteria to the list first. I deal with many Brit companies in all areas and find most to be operating very proffesionaly.
D Stanton
I agree with D. Stanton's comments about Arie's over generalisation, but Arie says a lot of things with his tongue firmly in his cheek. However, I too have emailed the company mentioned above and got no reply. I was trying to price the full hard top with glass, rubbers etc, not just a boot lid. Zilch. They should BE so busy already. Bernie.

Maybe their commercial interest is more focused on selling complete "Ashley GT's" at auction? Or maybe they are on holiday?
Mothy - '65 GAN3 and '65 HAN8
is it they? - could well be a one-man-band.
David Smith
LOL!! You guys are right by saying im generalising, works great for making your statement sound more dramatic. :) Thankfully its not a rule for all brittish companies! For once ill try to be wise and respond to this to prevent people taking me completly serious on this bbs. Although this could have started an old fashioned lively thread again. :) Ive done buisnes with terrible brittish companies and great brittish companies.(only car-related industry) No use of starting to moan all over again but it is amazing how some treat their customers, at first I got angry over it but now I can only laugh about it. It got me being more carefull of who and how to do buisnes with in the UK, part of growing up I guess. :) But I agree to say there are some great companies out there and especialy the ones that come on this bbs too. Although not having met any of them yet Ive never heard any complain about any of them in the spridget world. Some good examples of excelent service and trading in the classic car scene in my experience are Greycar (jackets, gloves, helmets ect.), BGH Geartech, PJM Motors and several more. You just got to stay positive like Mothy-"(Or maybe they are on holiday?)". :)

Alan, Forget the tail kamm. It is for a W&P. The Ashley never had it. Now everybody can produce an option, saying it is original option... But it is not. I think they are busy with a lot of different jobs and not only the GT kits. So they certainly choose their client. Sometimes ago, they proposed to sell 5 kits for overseas customers, to have resellers in aother countries. laurent

Ok now that I am totally confused here I posted a picture of my top and it sure appears to me it is an Ashley GT http://www.ashleygt.co.uk/ Id just mentioned it is not a tail kamm model yet on the above site it shows that exact top and 2 options , one with a spoiler type rear, one smooth. I am reposting my picture to show the actual top Can we at least agree that this is an Ashley gt top as a starting point? Alan

| Sorry I did not upload this photo Here it is
|
Alan Fisher
| Yes, it is definitely an Ashley. The kamm-tail version is a modern creation, not a period item. Here is a photo of my ex-racecar

| Thanks for everyone's comments and help I have received an email from Darryl Davis and we are making arrangements for the missing part to be sent east across the pond Alan
