I would have styed in the hole, but not a problem! ;-)
Mick - trying to sort the wiring
You are relaxed enough on a 5 foot wide bed to sleep like a baby all night long without worrying about the risk of falling out of bed. But if the bed were on top of a 600 foot high arch one wouldn't be so ready to relax! So what's the problem? - the risk is the same, its just the consequence that changes.

Lucky enough I dont fear hights so I would not have a problem getting out there and even walk a bit but because of the strong wind i would like a safty-harness just incase.

That's one of the few times that I'm greatful we have the CDM Regs over here.

In the '80s I worked for the agency that runs the trams in the Arch and had the opportunity to "help" change that light bulb. I did NOT go on top, although I did stick my head up through the hole. It's just as slick and smooth on top as it is on the bottom. No thanks. It's really fun to be up there in a lightning storm. Sounds like being in a tin can while hit with a sledgehammer. The best part of that job involved being "forced" to escort dozens of Miss Universe contestants to the top while confined in those tiny little capsules back in 1983. The sacrifices one makes for a job. :) Lee

I haven't been up in the Arch for years, but it's a truly memorable experience just being INSIDE at that height. It's different from being in a tall building, as the cross-section is an inverted triangle, and you can look straight down for 630 feet. Woah... but it does offer a superb view of the city! For our friends overseas, the Arch is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, and commemorates the fact that St. Louis was essentially the "Gateway to the West" during the pioneer days of the 18th and 19th centuries. Many thousands of settlers started their journey at St. Louis on their way West, whether to California for the gold rush, the plains for good farmland, whatever. Many a wagon train left from there. And I'm old enough to remember seeing the Arch during its construction back in the early 1960s. It's a pretty amazing piece of work. Cheers, -:G:-

I have only been up once, when i was a child, we where the last ones up for the day, due to the wind and an approching lightening storm (not sure why that would be an issue...LOL) after all it is made out of stainless steel, thats a little un-nerving swaying back and forth. there was an episode Id forgotten about back in the mid 80s where this idiot was going to sky dive and land on top of the arch then, remove that parashut and then base jump from the top with another shute, apperantly the plan wasnt well thought out ... he did stick the landing but his 1st shute dragged him off the edge before he could remove and deploy the other... he went splat!, I was reading about another guy in the 90s tried to climb up the arch with suction cups, but didnt make it, not sure what happened to him. Prop... I wonder how many midgets you could make out of all that stainless steel
