MG Midget and Sprite General - Anyone recognise these Alloys?

I've recently bought these alloys. Obviously they're in need or major refurbishment, but I think they're a change from minilites - an attractive pattern and I've never seen this design before.

They have JPC, Made in England, and 6Jx13 cast into the rims. The guy I bought them from thought they were an Astrali design from the late sixties or early seventies. He'd had them on a minor until a couple of years ago.

With the wealth of experience that's out there, I'm sure someone knows them?

D'uh. would help if I uploaded a picture!

They remind me a bit of Triumph Dolomite Wheels (and if anyone slags of Triumph Dolomites they clearly don't understand).
Gary Lazarus

I meant Dolomite Sprints

Pretty sure they were on the Dolomites in the early 70s

They are real nice ones though

Should have said KN Jupiter, save you searching through.

Brad gets the prize! Thank you very much.

The link is to the 10" wheel page, but they also have them on the 13" wheel page, which looks exactly like mine. Nice to know what they are, though there doesn't appear to be much information or history about them on the net.

Apart from surface corrosion, they look pretty good - not to many scrapes or dents - so I'm going to get them grit blasted and powder-coated.

Now, rubber...175/70 or 185/60? Decisions, decisions!

Whats the prize? i haven't had a pasty or a pot of clotted cream for years, hint, hint?
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

Brad,
What a good website.
Very Anorak!

Quite pleased to find and confirm that my wheels are indeed Cosmics. I always thought they were but had never seen another like them. This site lists my pattern wheels under 10" and 12", but not shown as 13". So mine must be rare!

Guy Weller

Guy, wouldnt you like some "weller" wheels on yours? :)
Arie de Best

Guy there not cosmics , they are KN jupiter.
R Mcknight

LOL Brad,

I'll happily send a pasty, but don't think it would make it to azerbaijan intact, somehow!

How did Warrens & Ginsters ever get on the list, things must have changed in the years i've been away. The butchers shop under the Hayle bridge alsways used to be good, as did the bakery in St Just.

R McKnight,
I know Mark's are KN Jupiters. It is mine that are Cosmics

Hi Mark,

I guess you must be in your late twenties, unlike myself as this was a very common alloy wheel in the late 70s/80s.

I think that wheel or something very similar was a common fitting to Skodas (as a kid I had a Saturday morning job at a Skoda dealer at one time).

Rachel must also be a lot younger than me, whereas Gary is just pretending to be young!! The Triumph Dolomite Sprint alloy wheel was more of solid spoked pattern with some black paint on the spoke sections and had a deeper dish. I've googled and found a photo which I've attached.

Guy's cosmics are indeed a rare wheel and in my youth it was rare to see any though I think there was a Triumph locally that had a set.

LOL - could be - the black looks the same when you're under 10 - 'sides, I only had eyes for Midgets :)

Daniel,
I'm in my mid thirties - I've obviously led a very sheltered existence down here in Cornwall. In my Mini days I saw many designs - but never came across these.

Brad,
Hayle is truly the Pasty capital of the world, with two of the county's finest Pasty makers - Philps and Hampsons (who are the one's you're referring to under the railway arch).
But of course the best pasties in the whole world are made by my mum. She makes them every Saturday. My midget rebuild was largely pasty powered - the car was living in their garage so I always timed working on it by arriving just in time for lunch :-)

Mmm...Pasty...
MarkH1

I still can't believe they put Ginsters on the list.
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

1980 - 1983 there were a couple of minis locally that had these wheels on them (I had Dunlop alloys on my mini).

I thought Cornwall was all VW camper vans and chebby pick-up trucks?
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve

Yep - they are Skoda wheels, also used on Caterhams in the eighties. Good wheels- had them on my Seven.
D le Versha

Ah - Ginsters, they are only a hair's breadth from being a Devon Pasty.

I'll second (or third) Philips under Hayle viaduct for being the best around (they've got a shop in Marazion too, my home village as was)

You can even buy a Cornish Pasty in Berlin these days.
Made by someone called Aunty Pasty I believe.
