MG Midget and Sprite General - Anyone one else fed up!

I don't give a Monkey's about the royal wedding and could care less. However can someone tell the Prime minister that the reason those who are interested can not organise a street party is NOT bureaucracy but organisers are terrified of being held liable if someone were to get hurt. Instead of claiming to be the prime minister and telling people to do as they please he should be telling them he will stop any charges or pay the bill! He needs to get into the real world!

Also does anyone care about Jordon the next chapter, peter the next Chapter or Kerry's next chapter, who on earth gives a toss? These people are nobodies who are scamming an easy living.

Who are Jordon, Peter and Kerry? What wedding?
Martin Washington

Bob just remember almost all news is Londoncentric

I don't know of any street parties anywhere near where I live

There were none for the Queen's silver Jubilee either

We never had rubbish piling up in the streets in the '70s that I ever saw

The gogglebox lies and presents its own version of history - based on bits of London

I must search for a real ale pub not showing the wedding - we have a geat time when Charley and Di wed, country pubs didn't have TV sets,it was a fabulous day (except for the bride perhaps)
Nigel Atkins

From yet another grumpy old git, I would imagine it's everywhere you look now in the UK. Here we are entertained (if you care to listen) each evening by talking heads dispelling financial, and political doom for us as though we were idiots. I'll stop there.

Personally, as a bit of a traditionalist, I'm looking forward to the wedding. It's at least a bit of happy news to be reading to take away from the usual drones of people complaining about petrol, having no money, 'I got injured, give me money', 'my daughter is missing, please televise me and then give me money' et cetera.

I get more fed up about the high level of moaning in the news nowadays. I realise the slight irony here of me moaning about people moaning.

Yes, DC was trying to appear human by saying everyone should have a party. That did annoy me a little. I'm holding a party for the event, one never knows when the next slightly cheerful national event is going to occur.

So, if anyone's in Oxford on the 29th, I'll be serving afternoon tea and only real ales.

Its a day off! That'll do me, however I won't be sat around watching the wedding even if I did pay for part of it!

I will be packing to go to Spain,if they had let us know earlier I could have got an extra day there.

For the last royal wedding in 1981, my mate came down to Malvern with his van and spraying equips, so we could give BRB her first new coat since leaving the factory. We spent 3 happy, sunny days mostly outside. It was so hot, we had to spray during late evenings (cellulose).

I need to quickly get organised for a 'job' for the upcoming wedding...

...thinking about it, every Midget owner should have an extra spring/summer holiday granted by the authorities for refurbishment. I'll vote for any party that put this in their manifesto (in mood of generosity, I'd extend that to any British manufactured drop-head over 25 years old).

Richard. I really hope no one chokes on a chicken bone whilst at your party otherwise "injury lawyers for you" will be taking everything you have and you will be paying compensation for the rest of your life. Maybe Cameron will step in and pay it for you? (No hope)

I am taking this thread as a free for all rant about things...

I know the feeling and I'm only 23. The moronishness and utter dullness of people/the world is depressing!

I am supposed to be part of the facebook/twitter generation, I can think of little else I would rather do than advertise to the world that I am taking a dump or whatever.

My girlfriend mocks me for being an old man, oh well, at least what few friends I have are real!

In a word, Urgh! ha ha

Bob, don't worry, I am far more of a fan of 'out of court settlements'.

However, they rarely involve money.

What ARE you complaining about - TWO 4 day weekends to work on cars, and the sun's out to shine all this weekend ......

Obviously another male thing :)
rachmacb

Robert, I dread the day of the wedding. The wife is a confirmed Royal watcher and plans on getting up at 2am our time to watch it on the telly. She's also invited several of her friends over to watch and have breakfast, so I'm sure I won't be getting a good nights sleep at all.
Consider yourselves lucky though, without William and Kate to consume your news you might be deluged with stories about Charlie Sheen instead. I must say Will and Kate are much easier to hear about. LOL
B Young

I really hope it's a nice day on the 29th,millions of people watching the box, small traffic and me up on Dartmoor.Magic!!
Keith Davies

I dreaded having to give the staff an 'extra' day off for the wedding with it being designated a public holiday. And the look on their faces as they rubbed it in was annoying to say the least. However imagine my glee when I saw that depending on your own specific holiday wording, which gives total annual holiday "inclusive" of bank holidays, then that total does not change but if they want the extra day off they can take it but it comes out of their floating days. Love it!

I haven't heard much about charlie sheen in a while. whats happening with him? I would have thought it would be all over our news but it hasn't at all. I had an inkling he would overdose and kill himself!
Tarquin

Ive made the mistake of googling the royal wedding about a month ago, Now im deluged in email spam for really great travel and room deals in the uk for wedding parties... some actually pretty good.. $1129 just the other day. which includes all access pass to the hotel party.

Im not sure how it will be precieved over here, Im not staying up till well after 2am to watch... but if its rainy outside and nothing to do, I probably will watch an hours worth of the post cast dribble...After all i am a news junky.

i have noticed the "kate look alike wedding ring" thats being hocked incenitly on tv has taken a huge nose dive in price... I think it can know be purchased for around $19.95 plus shipping and handleing compared to 3 payments of $39.95... when it 1st came out.

in all... its not been to badly hyped around here like charlie sheen... so if its good for business and lossens a few coins, then I have to be a fan
Prop

You've no idea how much comfort I got from reading this thread!! Cameron, Clegg, Osbourne.......real world!!!!!!! Not really. Wedding!! I've no doubt anyone suffering wedding deprivation and wishing to throw some rice or confetti will find a couple, at the local church or reg office, happy to have e few "extras" in the throng!
Allan Reeling

Whilst most on here seem to be off, spare a thought for the 40% of the population that have to work. However I really don't care this year as for me bank holidays have always been extra busy times of the year at work, but as I got made redundant two weeks ago I can now enjoy Midget matters all week if I want.

"I dreaded having to give the staff an 'extra' day off for the wedding"

Our CrownPrince had his wedding on a saturday so whomever wanted to watch was able too and so it didnt cost a day of national work production.
So not much has changed since the 17th century, holland is still more economical/clever then the UK.

Matt, great oppertunity tho to work a whole day on your midget next friday! ;)
Arie de Best

I've happily given the staff the day off, I deserve it for working so hard all year.

I'm off to Snetterton to wave the flag for David S in the 6 hour race. Hopefully the M25 will be quiet with everyone watching TV :-) That's something to hold a street party about!

We don't get enough holidays in this country, our quality of life would be so much better if we had more days off. And don't believe the bull5h1t about £Xbillion being "lost", all the work will still be done, we'll still do our shopping, just not on April 29th!

Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com

Will there be full coverage of the honeymoon as well?

Dave
D MATTHEWS

Considering the honey moon is in canada....im sure the honeymoon will be televised....lol what else is there to do on a friday night in down town O-Canada.....hahaha

So any predictions as to when william will cheat on kate....or maybe kate will get it on with a tolit bowl scrubber cammando...haha. but whats really disturbing is harry is moving in with the newly wed couple...2 brothers, 1 girl...behind an old front door.....is that what they mean by giving it the "ol collage try" .... lol.

ON a serious note ....I was surprised by the news today that kate and the Queen just meet for the 1st time in person just a couple of days ago...whats up with that?

"We don't get enough holidays in this country"

I'm of the opinion that if you want more holidays, then take them as long as you pay for them yourself!

Giving staff more paid time off might be financially ok for big business, but not for the thousands of small businesses that actually keep this country going AND employ hundreds of thousands of people. Where does the money come from you tell me? Do job prices go up to pay for them? Not a chance in hell. Will the government reduce corporation tax to pay for them? Not a chance in hell.

I think 2 full days off a week is blooming good, I wouldn't mind that, never mind being able to take the same 'entitlement' of 28 days that employees are allowed to.

The royal family are just trying to butter the public up by giving them an extra day off, plain and simple. If Westminster Abbey was already booked on the 30th I'm sure it could have been 'unbooked' for the happy couple.

Rant over. Come on Arie stick up for your big brother!
Tarquin

OK I'll wade in here too as another grumpy old man. I feel just like Malcolm, even though I'm 40 years older than him.

What depresses me is that the majority of people that one hears about only want one thing - to be rich and famous - look at all the so-called talent shows and quizzes on TV. And yet, if you look at the rich and famous they are almost universally unhappy. They drink too much (and worse) and ruin their health, they can't maintain a stable relationship with anyone, and they can't go walking without people approaching them. What sort of life is that?

I don't give a rat's ass about so-called celebrities. When I used to work, some of the female staff would leave magazines lying around the rest room and I would look at one and think "Who are all these people? Why should I be interested in their sordid little lives?" And of course the answer is that many people have now got so little interest in anything other than eating, drinking, sleeping and holidays (when all they do is go somewhere else to eat the same things they eat at home - don't want any of that foreign muck), that they get their thrills by vicariously living other people's lives.

Thankfully we have our wee cars, and through them I have made genuine friendships that will last, even if age eventually makes me have to pack it in. I'm not rich, but I have my home, a loving wife and family, and enough income to keep my head above water. That'll do me.
Mike Howlett

Im with Tarquin on this all the way!!

Except for the big brother part as your 2 months younger then I am so that basicly means your the todler mate.

Economy runs on the small(family?)buisness, they are the main work providers, dont make idiot decicions to please their shareholders or get a bonus.
They care for their staff, they dont reorganise and sack loyal staffmemebers because its good for numbers instead they go out and look for more work to keep the stafmembers employed!

Yes, there can be financial benefits when you own a company but thats not the main reason for doing it.
Actualy in many small buisnesses the owner would be better of working for a boss moneywise and for time of.

Giving my staff one day off because of a royal wedding would cost over € 5000,--!!!
Anybody has a clue what it takes to be able to make a profit of 5000,- to cover the expences for such a day?

I and many other dutch and forreign company owners where very pleased when our crownprince chose saturday as his weddingday.

Arie de Best

Im in agreement with arie and the rest of the old foogy out of date clan...

But i am curious....why not just have everyone work on saterday ...just trade the days off.

Seriously..... you think thats bad....with our air ground crews falling asleep in the air towers they are actually considering mandatory children nap time for the FAA air flight controllers.....just a matter of time before we have gov sponsered tax payer funded warm milk and cookies....before there tax payer funded mandatory nap time.....i wonder where they will sleep....maybe have build them a nursery also

I cant wait to see this mind numb idea to slide down hill to Aries business, finally his employees will have a much needed break from his overly driven task master attitude. Nap time cures all....hahaha

What a load of old Horlicks.....you don't get many businesses smaller than mine, and I think completely the opposite. A well rounded, rested and motivated workforce is essential, one of the benefits of being in a small business is building the relationships that capitalise on that. Stops employee turnover, saves the costs of retraining new people, boosts productivity.

I used to work for an employer that thought like that...used to being the important phrase. I was paid well but expected to work six days, the only day off was when my wife at work and my son at school. Holidays were seen as disloyalty. I left, within two years he had sold the business because he couldn't cope.

Did you realise you're not allowed to put your employees' kids up the chimney any more too? :-) now THAT'S an imposition if ever there were one.

BTW I'm with Mike H re celebrity!
Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com

PS any more outbreaks of niceness on my part, and Bob W will think I've come over to his POV. I haven't, it's just that I really do think we need to lighten up to make more money in this country. The old ways have made us what we are today, a broken, broke society. We need a completely new outlook, and a relaxed cooperative approach is something we haven't tried yet....

Oh and PPS, you have missed one important point, my employee is me!

;-)

Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com

Some great comments, I think myself and Mike H from Troon are in full agreement

Arie and Tarq, whilst I sympathise with the problem of who funds the extra day off, certainly won't be Cameron, nor the royals, nor them that wants all the pomp and ceremony (mainly yanks) think it is simply down to you matey.

However I believe you are both in the Service industry Tarqs do you run haulage?

If so then it will still be a level playing field for you as your competitors will have the same costs wont they? So you should be able to price accordingly without issue or am I going wrong somewhere.

My company TATA (british Steel) simply give me 35 days holiday a year which includes Bank holidays, in other words take a day off my own holidays, I suspect many thousands are the same.
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

A bit off pitch, but I read this with interest – I wish them well and a successful life together, they look to be a nice couple, but on the big day, I suspect I’ll be walking the dog!

However, I agree with Max, we expect a lot from our staff and should be able to take a relaxed attitude towards special events, most work far more than 45hrs a week and are as in all small businesses individually very important.

Treating people as a number is counterproductive and only profitable in the short term – long term growth comes from staff loyalty and people going the extra mile when required, or as in times like now digging in and working as a team to keep the business vibrant and happy, small things are very important and can become disproportionate to the staff, particularly if they perceive that they have been taken away.

The buy-words have to be respect, truthfulness and loyalty, deception and chiselling is now way to grow a business.

Cheers

OKAY....im officially burned out on the wedding of the mallinia, its everywhere now on tv....and still no one seems to care...id love to see what the ratings are going to be for the news companys for that 4am to 7am time frame that the wedding will be on. Imthinking ....dont bet the bank on them.. :)
Prop

Best thing to do is either turn off the telly or go abroad where they don't really care.
Brad 1380

I suspect that many Americans could come to the UKto avoid the coverage there that seems to make our media seriously low key.

Prop - you KNOW what I'm about to say ....!!
rachmacb

The more hype and publicity in America over this the better. It should work wonders for the UK economy, especially as a much needed boost for the UK tourist industry.

Whilst I have little interest in watching anything to do with this wedding I do think there is something special about the event as a point in history. Not many countries can claim a thousand years succession of kings and queens. Its a part of the history of the country that should be valued and preserved in the same way as the castles, cathedrals and landscape of our country. Lumping it all together with "celebrities" is like mixing up the value of Stonehenge with Alton Towers!
Guy

Lol true the house of Hannover has done well ...!!!

Meh - so long as people are happy then good on them - the extra day off is good for people and I'm a little aghast at those who begrudge a little light and time spread for others to enjoy and relax.

I won't be doing what I'd hoped to be, but whatever replaces it will be good as it's an extra :)
rachmacb

I'm with you Guy. Brad says people abroad don't care. Really? Estimated numbers watching the wedding will be 2 billion! UK's pop is some 60 million. You do the math!
Have a great life Will and Kate. Good on you both.
There are some right miserable comments on this thread. Uhm, I feel better now!
Neil K

Everyone is entitled to their opinion

but

Neil,

we do the maths over here :)
Nigel Atkins

According to the U.S. news people (NBC etc...) the United States is going to have more reporters and talking heads over there than England will. The coverage here will be unbelievable. It already is. And no, I will not be up at 3 in the morning to watch it but I have friends who are taking the day off just for the occasion. I'm not saying this is good or bad (the coverage of the wedding of the royals) but just that I will watch the hi-points because my wife said I was. I love her and if she's happy then I can buy more stuff for the Midget.
WHU Underwood

The coverage is ratched....the house i am working on has had it on the tv all day....and i must say, true comady

Ive been keeping rach advised on live breaking news.so she is fully aware....the breaking news stories are insane...

The news today is obama released his birth certificate and the 24 hour non stop wedding coverage

My favorite interview was with the plumber that installed a tolit in kates child hood house long years ago...

Btw way at one point the betting odds hit below 100 to 1 today that kate will ditch little willy at the alter

Im thinking there might be 1000 people nation wide that will watch....everyone is burned out and ready for it to end..only bills wife is all i know that are getting up at 2 am to watch...beyound that...no one is going to watch that i know of...even my niceses are bailing on the idea and there 14, 15 years old

The day after day non stop 24 hour coverage scence this past weekend has had its toll
Prop

Prop,
The interest is pretty high here, just look at NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, and the rest. Some folks are just really jazzed about the Royals over here.
BU
WHU Underwood

Yup Rach is seriously regretting the purchase of an iPhone with emails coming thick and fast ...!!!

I'm not sure how much boost to the economy people sleeping on the streets of London is, but I'm sure there is a by-law somewhere that means they can be charged :)

As I said days ago, what a wonderful day to have extra to work on cars - I have to get one ready for next week, so will be avoiding Props emails by hiding under the bonnet ....;)
rachmacb

Guy,

Loved that bit..."Not many countries can claim a thousand years succession of kings and queens."

Allowing for the odd lopped head and aggrieved Scot I presume? (lol)
Roger T

LOL Roger,
I didn't say it was a continuous succession, or that they all had a rightful hereditary - after all, that is exactly what I meant by the historical interest of it all! Its the variety and intrigue, backstabbing, double-crossing and murder that makes it so historically significant!
Guy

Guy,

Absolutely, and they managed to keep the entire show pretty much together - to very good effect. I admit it was probably a combination of Scots ancestry and 'arrowed' shirts that drove me to that!
Roger T

This is my two penneth.

Enjoy those who haven't seen this.

I was like all you old boys thinking 'all this coverage is ridiculous' but today, whilst at work I actually felt a bit disappointed that I wasn't at home watching things. I think it is a fantastic good news story for the UK and beyond and a day to be happy.

Yes the build up was OTT but the day I think was great.

Give it a few years and they can replace the queen on all the coins with the new Duchess of Cambridge! yum! ha ha

Cheers,
Malcolm
M Le Chevalier

Im a tratitor to men everywhere.... i watched... but not much. I got up to take a whizz ... the rach emailed me all excited about "THE KISS" At least thats the way i remember it..lol so the temptation of watching was.just to much to ignore

In all fairness.... it was historic, and england should and deserves to feel vary proud, it was both tasteful and well done, the dress was one to remember, and the event with all its grander was addictive to watch.

So congrats... that said, now that its over can we please get back to the real world with all the killing, raping, and typical planetary mayham. I really need my hardcore news fix.
