MG Midget and Sprite General - Anyone got/know a cheap Midget for sale?
Hi A friend of mine is looking for a Midget to use every day for a short commute to work. Mechanically sound and looking ok is what he is after. Following all the usual websites but thought I would ask on here in case you know of or have one you are about to sell. Looking at about £2k but maybe a little more for the right car... Mark

For 2K all you can expect is a rubber bumper car. Expect all A-series cars that pricing to have (hidden) faults. Unless we have a different view of mechenicaly sound and no body trouble ;)

Yep expecting an RB but a nice RWA car on Pistonheads today was sold when he called up for it. £2.5k. Looked ok in Pics but how old are pics in adverts; you can never tell until you see it! He had an MGB in his youth and is happy to tinker a little if needed... but needs it to start in the morinings. M

Good to hear he has a realistic view on things. Good luck finding him one

Mark, I have an everday Sprite that needs a new home. £2,500 to someone who'll look after her. Its a 68 1275. It was to be a long term keeper, but apparantly I have too many toys and although I love MOL, I love my bike more. MOL is an older restoration, and is very solid underneath. I've kept up with the Dinitrol. I had new sills fitted by an MGOC listed company and a respray 3 years ago. The bodywork isn't perfect, but presentable and tidy. It has a new Don hood with a zip-up rear window, and black leather MGF seats. The carpets and door cards have been replaced. There's a 14" Moto-lita. I bought new bumpers, but when she came back from the sprayers, I liked the look without. The profile pic is recent. I still have the bumpers and all the ironwork is blasted and repainted. I have overhauled the brakes including Mintex pads and braided lines. I've gone through the suspension with Superflex bushes throughout. I've fitted FrontLine suspension front and rear with their slightly uprated front springs and new standard rears. There's an 11/16"ARB up front and a FrontLine RTL at the rear. The tyres are recent 145x13 Avons. i've converted to negative earth, fitted electronic ignition and halogen headlights with relays. I've fitted a 3.9 diff that makes cruising more relaxed and the speedo is now just about spot-on with my GPS. My long term aim was to fit a K series so at the moment the motor is standard save K&Ns and an LCB. It's regularly serviced and has good oil pressure. Similarly the gearbox and clutch operate as intended. We've toured the Dales, Wales and Ireland most recently. We commute occasionally if its fine. The TR5 mirrors help in traffic. The wipers are single speed and a bit of a pain in spray and drizzle. She's just passed a MOT, and reading this I don't know why I'm stil typing but... If your interested get in touch. Mark

If I was looking I'd come over and have a look! I have not bought a new car for almost a year and am starting to miss the "new" car experiance..... But to many projects already

Onno, "Too many projects" Where have I heard that before! Mk

Bloody hell M Crossley. And exactly, why are you selling? lol. If yours is only 2.5k, that makes mine('66 1275) worth about 500 quid. That's a very sweet car for the money.

Mark A bit off thread I know, but how did you get the RTL to fit without fowling the handbrake mechanism. I am still having trouble with mine. Dave

Hi Mark, If your friend is still looking for a midget, my wife intends to sell hers in the Spring, but could be persuaded to part with it now! It is a 1970 midget in Bronze Yellow. It is in pretty good nick, but noisy in first gear. She's looking for about 2.5K Located between Buckingham and MK. Dave 07875 177743

Blimey, where have all these great cheap non RB cars come from? I guess it must be autumn... when we were looking earlier this year there was nothing under £3.5k that wasn't very ropey bodywise.

| Hi Lawrence, As I say, I apparantly have too many toys. An alien concept, I would have thought. Madam says you can't have too many shoes or handbags. I don't get that either. The Oilhead BMW (that works) The Airhead (that doesn't) The tuned Airhead (that isn't quite finished yet) The (two wheeled) Ariel in the attic. The Honda Trials iron. Anyway madam is looking at caravans and you can't tow what she likes with a Sprite and my company car won't take a towbar, so.. You don't want a R1100S do you. Very little track day usage. Mark

Dave, If I'd followed the FL instructions, The mounting bracket would indeed have clashed with the diff and/or the handbrake rod. The curvature of the bulkhead panel meant that the bracket wouldn't have been perpendicular to the ground. I bolted the mount to the chassis an inch or so further up the bulkhead than recommended, that way it was truly vertical and just (only just) cleared everything. I used the lowest option for locating the tiebars, not the middle ones recommended, in order to compensate for the height difference. At first I thought that it was quite "oversteery" until I realised that I was circumavigating my favorite roundabout quicker than in my TT. It was well worth the effort in fitting, not sure about the price though... Mark

| Mark Thanks for that, I originally had it higher up, but had to do some adjustments, it worked perfectly, but frontline said I had done it wrongly, and I would not get the maximum benefit, so although it worked OK I moved it to where they said, and of course even with fitting a 1500 handbrake it still fowls. | Hi all, I am also after a midget at this price, I am willing too do some work or TLC, she will go to a loving classic car home and will be looked after. :) Cheers, Will |
