MG Midget and Sprite General - ANOTHER oil rig in the gulf by BP could Blow..NO!

This is the 2nd report on this ive seen this past week.

There is ANOTHER oil rig appearntly in bad shape ran By BP, and its the 2ND LARGEST rig in the gulf at 2 miles under water. twice the deepth so I doulbt ROVs would be of any use

NOW heres the scary part, they cant find 90% of the rigs safty shut down documents, so in an emergancy, it will just keep right on pumping like the current mess...meaning no one knows how to shut it down, currently there are 20 congressmen trying to have it shut down till BP can get there sh*t togather and supposed to have a meeting mid next week on its future

Its called the Atlantis, HMMMmmmm... not a confident sounding name is it...LOL

On a positive note BP insist the rig is perfectly safe and the rough necks can easily shut it down and It was inspected and passed with flying colors by the regulatory commision known as... "MNS"...Yeah, Im sure thats factually based, besides why would they lie...LOL oh man thats sad!!

So what has this got to do with Sprites and midgets Prop - maybe you should find a political forum to vent off on......
The US isn't so squeaky clean you know -look up Bopal.

Happy days

David
d brenchley

Torey Canyon and Atlantic Conveyor maybe need looking up too. Oh yeah and the fact that the BP rig was staffed by mostly Americans, maybe you should foot your own clean up bill.

Rant over!
S McGregor

Atlantic Conveyor??? Sunk with French misiles.

d brenchley

Amoco Cadiz? Is that the one you're thinking of?
rob thomas

I think you meant Halliburton, Cameron and Deepwater the American companies that convinced the BP company that they could do the job safely

Maybe

Everyone in the USA seemed happy enough to pay b*gger all for their Oil and screamed blue murder when the price went up. Perhaps eveyone might have been happy to pay a levvy to cover such eventualities?....I thought not.
Gary Lazarus

Oil has never been easy to get - a friend of mine told me about companies in Canada where a man would be killed, and they'd hose down the blood and make you work through it all.

I'm not going to advocate going back to foot power - but, we do need to recognise the real cost behind this - and ACCEPT proper regulatory systems - which has never been that popular in certain countries ....

Again - look at Bhopal ... 100 000 people STILL suffering - compared to this........
rachmacb

Like grandmother used to say, "Now children, play nice."
tomshobby

I dont get the USA attitude to BP at all.

First the rig is not owned by BP
It is not manned by BP

Yet BP are happily picking up the tab to sort the problem out. They should be welcomed by the yanks!

The company that owns and operates the rig wold not have enough money to sort this out for them.

A good thing that could come out of this although I very much doubt it, is that right wing americans could now be convinced that no matter how enormous the void maybe, if you pump enough polutants into a finite space it will polute!!

The earths atmosphere is only a bit bigger than the world oceans and they love pumping garbage into that without thought!
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Prop, your wrong as usual, Rov's can operate that deep.
Brad 1380

This crisis has really shown the rest of the world what an ass Obama has turned out to be. Rather than telling the world, the US will work with BP to get it sorted, all he's doing to telling everyone, we will use our might to make them sort it, or else! What an ass. You can see right through the man, all that talk before the election, and now he's crapping himself. He can talk the talk, but looks like he can't walk the walk.

I never intended this debate, Only that another rig is in bad shape and could blow, although I can no longer find any news artical about the vibrations, noises and cracking of the structure taking place on the rig.. i only wished to convey that thers a resonable chance of a 2nd disastor to take place.

Im not sure I understand the antimossity that you guys are having towards the USA and the daily assult we are suffering by BP, You do know that this mess will becoming a shore on your side of the pond vary shortly there still saying christmas time frame, remember only 1000 barrel (44,000 gallons)of oil have been recovered from the shore line, and nothing from the ocean. the busted well is spewing 2,000,000 gallons ever 24 hours, and BP is using a solvent in the water so the oil settles on the ocean floor instead of float on top of the water, to be dealt with later, So the planet is ALL in this mess togather, your definatly not exempt, its on its way... the USA is just the 1st nation to be affected because we are only 50 miles away from the busted well.

So if this new massive rig (atlantis)thats only been operational about 30 months and can produce 800,000 barrels of oil a day multiplyed by 44 gallons to a barrel blows... it WILL be the end of human life on the planet...No humans to drive the midgets, yeah Id say midget related.

But I agree,,, We do have some rotten corp, where CEOs should be executed or face life in prision with out parol, for the vast harm they have done to the planet and world economy... AKA we can all think Goldman sucks, PIG, Bank of screw america ect. ect. for the disastors of 2008 that still continue today

but Im not sure what that has to do with BP disastor, other then they share similar low charter values...

Prop... Me! What did I do?
Pro P

Sorry Prop, but you started this NMC thread. Isn't it the case that some 39% of BP is owned by Americans and it contributes massively to your pension investments. I guess most ordinary people over here are just about fed up with the way our politicians are just poodles to America and fall in line with America's demands. Thatcher, Blair and Brown supported this approach. I've had a guts full of it.
Neil (K series)

I think that you have to turn it on it's head - it's a one-off event that the USA calls the shots, and totally ignores everything that it has done bad in the world!

If you're going to be the world's police, then you have to be beyond reproach.
rachmacb

I completely agree with you Rach. We in the US should take care of our own and keep our nose out of the rest of the world's problems and let the chips fall where they may. It has simply not been worth the cost in money or especially in lives. And that is the way I vote every time.
tomshobby

The US has always thought of ourselves as an exceptional nation, beyond reproach.
We all know this isn't the case and we have a lot to be sorry for over the last 250 years, but reguardless of the illogic this is our world view.
We like to think of ourselves as a beacon to the world illuminating all that is good and moral. Lol

That said, I understand the sentiment coming from the UK that we blame you all for this mess. maybe it's the circle I travel in, but I haven't witnessed any anti UK feelings.

America is just royally pissed of at BP, and rightly so. Our gov't let them have the lead on controlling their mess for 2 months. So far they have been an utter failure. There are not enough workers on the beaches or on the water. They haven't the technology to shut down THEIR well. They had no program in place to pay legitimate claims and was slow in paying what they did.

When we hear that bankruptsy is battered around as an option to paying all valid claims our gov't has acted to secure the funds for BP to pay what is due.

Niel,
I wish your leaders had the guts to stand up to us. Your solutions to the worlds issues can't be any worse than the ones America has made for the last 10 years.
Phil Burke

This whole episode must surely have hammered home the need for a total re think in energy for the future. Over the years there have been many mishaps in the oil industry with dreadful prolonged effects. The answer has to be by using electrical motors but as yet we have not developed the storage capabilities, though with lithium technology ever improving there is hope. What we need is a massive discovery of raw lithium. Oh, shock!!! The US military have discovered possibly the worlds largest supply of raw lithium on the planet. Guess where . . . Afghanistan. World police . . no, just the worlds locust in human form

Sure we have a chip on the shoulder, a cocky atitude esp in foreign poicy, But we are intitled ... We are the greatest nation on the earth, Least thats what the bible says...LOL. All I feel the need to add is this, please realize that all huge corporations are global.
"Blaming" Union Carbide or BP for a huge mess is right and just.
Doesn't mean the countries that have owners (stock holders) are to blame, but when the leadership of those corporations are found liable they should and must be punished harshly.
The corporations themselves should suffer whatever it takes to make amends for the deeds that have been done, whether accidental or not.

When the leaders of these global corporations are found to be lying SOB's who cover up the dirty deeds they should be executed.
I don't care what nationality they are.

Plain and simple.

Just one guy's opinion.
Rick Bastedo

I completely Agree with you tomsboy and Nick...

we should and need to pull out of every place we have a military base around the world, we simply dont have the money or man power to continue to be the worlds police force, I strongly belive its time for china and its wealth to step up and take over keeping the planet from killing each other, we need to look after our own boarders only from now on.

This oil disastor is a reset for me, Im totally in favor of a new path in energy, the sooner we can dump oil the better off both financially and enviormently we will be ... we have a 800 year supply of natural gas right here in the USA, and its not that expensive to make the conversion... its so do-able! just to much protectionism in the fed gov. for big oil...

Its time we used it (CNG) Compressed Natral gas, and bring on the party of wealth and the RE-establishment of a strong Middle class once agian... if we dont embrace the future then we will die with the unmarked graves of history!

We DONT have an addiction to oil, our politicans have an addiction to big oil lobby cash to vote the status que... just ask joe barton of texas

Simplistic attacks on BP solve nothing

Read Bob's post again (OR EVEN for the first time)

and many others of us

Halliburton AN AMERICAN COMPANY
Deepwater AN AMERICAN COMPANY
Cameron AN AMERICAN COMPANY

tendered for the tasks of drilling and bringing oil to shore under regulationns set by the USA

BP an international company partly owned in the USA as well as around the world, bought the rights to drill and operate oil wells and put out the tasks involved to tender

These AMERICAN companies bids to perform the work involved were accepted

Yes it is a global scale disaster, those companies did their jobs wrongly working for BP

I dont feel sorry for any company bosses involved though I was disgusted by the publicity slaves grilling the BP boss, what jerks

I wont start on Obama, your problem!

And Natural Gas underground... 800 years supply

Yeah they told us that too

now we have to buy the stuff from Russia via Europe several years later, at their price

The company is called BP, so why was Obama pointedly calling it British Petroleum??
Tarquin

Seems I got it wrong

Deepwater is owned by Transocean

an AMERICAN company

sorry

Tarqs

he can't call it Anglo-Iranian any more so this is the next best BAD thing
bill sdgpm

Bill,
As leaseholder and customer of all the sub-contractors you mentioned, BP is the responsible party. They had a Company Man that was on the drill rig at all times. BP's (or any other leasholder) always has a Company Man on well drilling operations. He has the final say and responsibility for what is and is not done. He represents the customer, the company paying the bills. In this case Beyond Petrolium ;o)

Of corse Tony didn't help BP's image much today by referring to the people of the Gulf as little folks while out yachting with the big boys

This is totally boring now, and, it's obvious that the facts are NOT being read.

Aside from anything else - to wish brain cancer on any person - or any other sort of ghastly disease - is just disgusting, and not the act of a civilised society.

We have dealt with oil spills before Prop, so, I daresay we will deal with anything that comes out of this - with alot less hysteria and mass panic.

To say someone has to not have any sort of day off is daft - did Bush Senior and Junior, or Obama never have a day off while kids are being killed at war over oil?

Let's be real here, America is not just suffering it's "worst natural disaster" at all - it IS a environmental disaster - always has been, and always will be. It has never accepted the reality of the situation of global climate change and the need to control emissions. Yes, it perhaps is overshadowed by other countries, such as India, but, America is a rich nation, and should be leading the way.

I daresay you aren't going to begin to even read what I've written, but, it's time to get over putting this stuff up all the time - the vast majority of us do not come onto here to discuss politics or the mess that the world is in, but to have a jolly time discussing Spridgets in all their forms. Yes, it's nice to learn things about other countries - but not this ghastly nastiness that seems to be pervading at the moment. Take a deep breath, accept the world is far from perfect and get on with ones' life the best one can.

I will NOT appologies for my tony haywards brain cancer comment... Becuse he WILL NOT face justice for the Murder of those 11 men and if he does it ill be a slap on the on the back with a big ol smile.

The cost of our world domination for the purpose of (((freedom...Huh))is to enourmous and Is no longer worth the investment.

Encourage your countrymen and government to try this for a policy. Leave others alone and only attack if you are attacked!

By the way don't worry about the oil spill, BP will sort it out for you, they are the only company who can! if you left it to the company who operated the rig then you would have a major problem to deal with!

I don't blame The BP Dude for a day out on his Yacht though I do question the name? Bob? After all Obama went golfing quite a lot and had dinner parties and concerts to attent while this mess was underway. Why didn't the Gob'ment step up immediately and get the ball rolling? Well let's see what a company can do first then we'll put the might of a country in play if they can't handle it-Bull s#*t! The US gob'ment and it's corrupt oversight committee are equally to blame for letting the oil rig operate in the first place. It's my understanding that BP was warned by many of the associated firms that it was rather lax in it's safety procedures for this rig but after all ( I believe) BP had the final say in how it was run. The specticle of the US congressmen bullying Tony was despicable to me especially because they are just as culpable as BP. Had they allowed drilling in shallower water this incident would never have happened. Sure there's a great possability that it would have happened anyway but it would have occured at perhaps a more managible depth, and I'm not knowledgable about the differences in drilling between shallow and deep water so perhaps the variables are less dangerous in shallow water to begin with. I don't believe anyone here has the right to proclaim the benefits og green power and saving the oil and planet unless they're driving a hybrid 80% of the time. Most people on here are looking to increase horsepower/torque and ridding their later model Midgets of their emmissions control parts. I say let's use all the oil up-it'll get more expensive as it runs out; then we can all be green. As far as environmental disasters are concerned-sucks to be effected but it's our own frailty we're all really concerned about. The earth will always bounce back, we're just worried it won't be a pretty as it used to be but what does that have to do with anything but our own narcisism? having said all that this truley is not the place for geo-political comments but I couldn't help but to see what was goin' on. Funny how Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck got mentioned in here-untruley miss-quoted as well I can't recall either saying anything of the sort, and if Beck is so full of Bull why hasn't he been sued for slander or libal? You should listen to him and attempt to rebuke what he says rather than dismiss him arbitrarily without any kind of understanding of what he's talking about.

Clearly no lessons have been learned.

I agree with the Mother Nature concept. It is looking like the Gulf and Atlantic currents will help remove a lot of it. I also like the idea of burning it off, kind of like a huge fish boil. And picking up the globs from the beaches and depositing them somewhere out of sight is impressive. But my absolute favorite clean-up effort is the time spent wiping the grass with paper towels.

The sad part is what it is doing to the natural resources of the area and the lives of millions of people. Say nothing about those that died. And no matter who pays for the cleanup this will effect the economy of the region and the rest of the US. It will also effect the economies of other countries that enjoy US spending.

At this point I see nothing good coming from it.
