MG Midget and Sprite General - An Odd suspension minor problem ...Maybe?

I came across this the other day and never noticed this before...not really a problem as I plan to be doing a massive upgrade in the front suspension in the next month or so

But when the wheels are turned full lock right or left there is ball joint play on the front of the tire on the side where the front of the tire is pointing out from the car...its not on the back edge nor the other side of the car

Its only on the front of the tire thats sticking out away from the fender well so 9 oclack on the USA drivers side and 3 oclock on the GB drivers side...but only during full wheel lock and only for the wheel thats pointing away from the car

I hope that made sence...anybody ever see that before, or is that normal?

just odd thing...beyound that the wheels are shake proof

You should jack the front up and see where the play is coming from. BTW the wheel pointing inwards may be acting as the steering end-stop and might be resting against another component that restricts its movement.

Hey antony,

Ill take another look at the back sides of the wheels when locked....the movement is in the inner ball jouint area you can see it move back and forth about 1/4 inch....But I dont think its the inner tie rods, I really belive its in the rack in the gearing itself ...where you have the flat gear and the roller gear...sorta to much play in the gears

is that possiable, how do you fix that...luckly thats an issue for a month or so down the road, nothing to serious to deal with at the moment
