MG Midget and Sprite General - An MGCC Member no more....
After many years of MGCC Membership,I've not renewed this year. I consider myself a bit long in the tooth now to put up with the clique of hooray henrys that run it. I will be continuing with MASC.

love the hooray Henry analogy, for the non UK readers, I translate that as delusions of grandeur.
Nick Sayle
A Ainsworth, as a member of both clubs(and the MGOC) I can only say: - (as a member of the MGCC)"its a pitty to see you go" - (as a Masc member)"welcome to the coolest car club" LOL Btw, I agree with Nick: great expression of the hooray Henry's. LOL!!
Arie de Best
a genuine hooray Henry drives Daddy's Bentley or Aston and wouldn't know which way to turn a screw driver, They certainly wouldn't drive round in an old Morris pretending
Nick Sayle
I became a member of the uk MGCC because the dutch MGCC is even terrible and membership in the uk is cheaper. so remember it can always be worse
Onno Könemann
It hasn't spoken for me for a few years either, but I've also been around long enough to know that all clubs go through peaks and troughs. The current senior members won't be around that much longer, given their average age, and the Club is greater than its leadership - so I decided to hang on in there and wait for it to change again!

Sorry to hear that Andy. :( don't know the facts of your problem but these things happen in all parts of society I am afraid. I have found that some people's egos become far greater than the event or club and guess who loses out? The enthusaist!! It's a real shame but it happens all the time in every club and every committee! I hope you will find what you want! Good luck!
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
Well I'm not stuck up or a hooray henry but still enjoy being a member of the MGCC just as I like the MGOC and MASC. I'll be at MG Live and can't wait for it. In fact in recent times I believe Safety Fast has become a quality and intersting magazine. You may not agree but hey, it's a free country (well, freeish anyway)
Neil (K series)
Just to expand further on my first post and pass comment on subsequent. Nick Sayle,Nick I agree a genuine hooray Henry does drive daddys Bentley or indeed the Bentley that daddy has left him.I should have said wannabe hooray Henry ! Bob,thanks for your best wishes.Lets just say my problems haven't stemmed from Midget owners.... I'll probably be at Silverstone see you all in the knitting marquee !!!

Andy, From my experiences with the MGCC over the last few years, I would say... hang on in there... Aparant politics at 'the office' may give folk the impression all is not good, but I can tell you, the MG Car Club 'Midget Register' committee are all of the younger generations (OK, not YOUNG but very young at heart and in comparison to others ... young). Anita and I have recently moved to Australia and the MGCC is the ONLY true world wide club and all members that we have met, have welcomed us as members of the 'family'. As quited to me today at Mount Cotton Hill climb, "the MG Car Club are really one very friendly bunch of folk". I'll drink to that...... Mark.

Haven't come across any Hooray Henries, but met plenty of snobs - snobbish about their long membership, snobbish about the early cars, snobbish about some of the the less sporting activities. Agree they are pretty hard to take sometimes, but it's still the best club, IMHO.
Nick
"the best club," Nick, how come youre a member of that? I thought it was only open for people with "de Best" as sirename? Im gonna have to talk to the board that they cant just let anybody join. :)
Arie de Best
Here in Scotland your assessment of the MGCC couldn't be more wrong. The Caledonian Centre is very friendly, active and welcoming. At our flagship 3-day event a couple of weeks ago we had 70 cars from a 1931 L-type to a 2010 Chinese TF85, and included J-types, P-types, T-types, MGAs, MGBs, MGCs, Midgets, a Magnette, Fs and TFs and several V8s. One car came from Penzance (a J2!), one from Holland (CGT), a German couple had to call off because of illness, and a couple came from Canada and borrowed an MGB. It's greatly preferable to the MGOC in my opinion, and the management at Kimber House is much younger now than it has been for years.

i think i finaly get the frase "Hooray Henries" The reason to skip diner in the big tent this year at silverstone for me (BBQ much beter anny way)
Onno Könemann
Sorry Arie - what a mistake to make! As a matter of interest, what does 'de Best' mean in Dutch?
Nick
We'll be more on the social scene this coming Silverstone as we can't race there this year due to peculiar reasons as laid down by the club. We had planned to take the Jubilee down and join in with the polishing brigade, however some work as become apparent so we are now pushed to get that sorted in the next couple of weeks (and then we are racing at Oulton the following weekend). So we'll be there with or without a MG this time. A.
Andrew McGee
a matter of interest, what does 'de Best' mean in Dutch? = "crazy mad" :) Well, I guess one of the things I might possibly miss is the MGCC - they have all been helpful, fun, kind, generous and the events well organised. Having said that, my membership is due in a couple of weeks - and I've not rejoined yet - but, that's more in absence of organisation than refusal to join!
rachmacb
de best = the best
Onno Könemann
de best the beast? :-)
bill sdgpm
"the beast?" Bill, only after 24.00hr. :) McGee joinin the polish brigade??? Whats becomming of the world? LOL! Nick, Onno nailed it! I cant help it, its the name i was born with. Yeah, i know its unfair me having a name like that AND looking as good as i do. LOL!!!
Arie de Best
Your father may have been a 'de Best', Arie, but I seem to recall your mother was descended from the 'de Wurst' dynasty.
Nick
About the only thing he's de best at is losing drag races and girlfriends :-)
Tarquin
Nick, wurst doesnt equalize de Best so we still have the advantage. ;) "is losing drag races" No, Tarquin doesnt mean racing with cars but dressing up like a woman and compete with other "likeminded souls". LOL!
Arie de Best
>>>>>>>was descended from the 'de Wurst' dynasty The sausage-making side of the family?
