MG Midget and Sprite General - Agreed Valuation - Insurance

hey all, my insurance have sent me an agreed valuation form for my midget. my last insurance just took whatever value i said it was worth, but my new insurance company need a form filled out my both myself and a specialist/garage that deals with mg's.

i dont really have anyone near by to do this, are there any on-line valuations?

cheers :)

Maybe it's time to change insurers. My company (Footman James)just asked me for three or four pictures which I have to renew every three years. And I have to inform them of any extra stuff that I do to the car to keep or increase the agreed value.

Bernie.

Usually they only ask for that if it's over a certain amount (the figure £10 000 is jumping around my brain, but, don't hold me to it!), but, they also accept someone like the Chair of your local MG car club - be it MGCC or MGOC or MASC - usually, so, it might be worth contacting them and saying you've got problems with this, what will they accept instead.

If I am recalling correctly, you've got a 1500 which you're in the process of restoring? In which case, you're not talking over £5000, let alone £10 000, so I really can't see this being a problem to them. Otherwise, as Bernie has suggested - change to Footman James!!!!

Rick,
valuations, unfortunately IMO, are based on cosmetic aspects of the car rather than how well the car operates or goes and of course market value - market value is mainly based on the cosmetic of the car

So ask your insurer, as there are no MG garages or specialists within a reasonable distance to you, if you can take the car to a garage or specialist that deals in similar value classic cars as the Spridget

Then wash and polish the whole car including engine bay, boot, door shuts, soft top, wheels, tires, chrome and glass and interior so the car looks it’s best, tidy up loose cables, missing grommets – it’s all about impression and getting on the right side of the person valuing

Having done a good job of the whole exterior you may find that’s all they will take a quick glance at and not bother to look further, as it’s all about impression and cosmetics and what the market value is (based on cosmetics)

ETA: I was typing with rach posted - great idea to ask if they'll accept a club valuation as that would be from a MG specialist

thanks for all the info! i am with footman james and they ask for both photos and an outside evaluation (unless i have read the form wrong)

update = yup i'm an idiot, i only need a dealer/specialist if the car is worth over 20K

phew.... hmmm dont know how much my car is actually worth though?

here is a wee pic of ma girl!
Rich K

must be worth 19,999 :)
Nigel At

if only ;)
Rich K

sorry just seen photo

no overriders and fuel tank not full

so £19,949 :)
Nigel At

It must be worth more than a normal 1500 as it has chrome bumpers ;o)

By the looks of youyr driveway perhaps fleet insurance might be cheaper.
Gary & Gaps

It's wet so the value must be lower :)

Reminds me

Get valuation form filled in for Classicline…

nice car BTW
Bill 1

dave - dont think rach would agree ;)

gary - missing from the photo are a skoda, a classic mini and a motorbike. my family are petrol heads!
Rich K

HAHAHAHA - as I've always said - if you WANT a chrome bumper car - get a chrome bumper car!!!!!

My 1500 weighs less than the average chrome bumper one anyway - so, is, therefore - worth way more :)!!!! :P

I don't know if that photo will come out - I couldn't seem to copy it :(

"My 1500 weighs less than the average chrome bumper one anyway"

Howz that?
did you replace steel panels for fibreglas?
Dont tell me you as a mgcc-originalitiefreak"leave the rubber bumpers on!" have removed your rubber bumpers????? :)
Arie de Best

Arie - my car will still look exactly like a rubber bumper car :)

You will hopefully see it next spring, as Primerose is to grace Holland with her presence again :P
rachmacb

hehe i know rach :) had a look at your vehicle profile, you midget is really nice! is that canary yellow? i'm sure my midget was the same colour as yours (before the previous owner resprayed it)

i have noticed that removing the bumpers and replacing the suspension with polybushes has made some difference to the handling!
Rich K

LOL - no canaries - it doesn't sing :P!!!

Seriously, nope, it's a non-original chartreuse yellow - hence the name - not sure what her original colour was, but it is quite a nice one, and slightly different.

Did you manage to sort out things with the insurance company?
rachmacb

:P yeah, its just a couple of pics they're after. hopefully hear back soon :)
Rich K

Great - all sorted then!

They usually do seem pretty good and stuff - unlike other companies which insure modern cars - but I am a bit peeved about missing my chance to get a meerkat toy ....!!!!

The chrome one, of course, is teal blue - and, therefore, so much more boring and dull and fits into the background of commonness :)
rachmacb

hey, my first classic was a teal blue BGT

but you're right Spridgets suit brighter colours more than the old man B colours :)
Nigel At

Hmmmmm - since I have a teal blue BGT (and Onno's future wife does too!!!!), and drive a teal blue midget ....!!!
rachmacb

must just have been mine then :)
Nigel At

LOL - do you WANT me to start my rant about the ruddy Previous Owner and their addiction to their toy welding machine ....???????????
rachmacb

as the OP was sorted some time back - yes
Nigel At

What's OP?

Apart from the welding things that shouldn't be - she's a nice enough car for a daily driver - although she's heading the Rachel improvement route too .......!
