www.Aseriesspares.co.uk seems to be the web address.

call me old-fashioned (as the majority of the classic car movement are) but I'd prefer to be told WHO you are, WHAT you're experience consists of, and WHY I want to spend my money with you. There's no obvious USP, and an amazing lack of technical detail about the products on the website. And as for 'wrench' I thought that was when you had to go away and leave the Midget in the garage, do they mean spanner?
David Smith

Coilovers and gas strut dampers....Mmmm
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve

According to their website they are:
A-Series Spares
25 - 27 Hall Croft
Shepshed, Loughborough
Leicestershire. LE12 9AN

Although a more personal introduction with an "Is it ok to advertise here or am I being a bit cheeky?" Probably would have been a better start to their relationship with us here.
Gary Lazarus

Flippin heck David the wrench did the same for me. As you say spanner is the word they were looking for. Next thing you know they will be pulling engines to take them out? Mind we do pull teeth!!!
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Sorry Bob, but we "pull the engine" and we can do it in 31 minutes too :D

Have to admit that I thought ooo there's a cheek, I mean we'll all be advertising the things we can do to "assist" our fellow BBS'ers!

Anyone want PopUp Awnings, banners for car shows, vinyl graphics for race cars, exhibition stands for classic car events (Max! :D)

Okay I'll shut up now!

A.
Andrew McGee

Perhaps you do pull an engine Andrew :) however when I pull one it is from one side of the garage to the other :) at others times I take the engine out and put it back in. Just wondering do you push your engine back in! :)

On the advertising front, many advertisers do the right thing and fund our wbsite using the official advertising banners.
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

I always read wench in place of wrench. As in "buxom wench". Much more interesting!
Guy Weller

31 Minutes???

I guess the challenge is laid down then... lol

I'll time the next one we do ;)
PeterJMoore

Sorry but I bet that is not with standard mounting etc!!
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Bet you it is with the standard mountings....

:D

A.
Andrew McGee

Bob, you reckon Andrew is running quick release, or even 1/4 turn fasteners as mountings.

hmmmmm, thats another sleepless night now trying to conjure up some quick release yet uber strong and lightweight engine and box mounts :S
PeterJMoore

OK then bet it is not with Standard Radiator mountings and metal wings, bonnet and front bit. :)

Used to take me an hour and half to get the rad out. :)
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Okay so the front is a one piece, however the radiator mounts are standard and they are wrapped in an aluminium construction that give support to the bonnet pins.

Pic below may give you an idea.

Oh and the n/s engine mount is a modified one, it has added strengthening ribs on the leading edge and a welded in gusset inside it (which actually makes it harder to remove).

A.

ps. I'll do a guide to "pulling an engine in 31 minutes" on the technical thread!

Andrew McGee

Andrew

Purely out of interest could you get me some detailed photos of the whole front end of your car.

Just hunting for ideas and you seem to have that all fairly neat and tidy.

Thanks

Pete
PeterJMoore

Andrew, is that 31 minutes single handed, or with help?

Guy
Guy Weller

I've just about made the 1st mug of tea in 31 minutes. Would also take me that long to remember how to put my crane back together.
Dean Smith ('73 RWA)

First year we did FISC, Dave broke a gearbox a few laps into practice at the last round at Assen. He needed to get a race win to take the championship so we had to have the engine and box out and change the box... We had the engine and box out and on the floor before most of the other cars came back in from practice - we didn't time it but I bet that it took a fair bit less than 31 mins... :)

Don't think I could do it that quickly on my own though... ;)

over here in the midwest to remove an engine its "Pulling an engine" to install it, you say "Stick it back In" or "drop it back in" Or "shove it back in"

But the most common term to do both is ... "You MOTHER ******, <GCW#%^&*)(U*%#@%@&$^^^%% I WILL KICK YOUR..(^&(%#$@&%#W@^%)(&^*&())*()*^%&*((_).... Piece of tolit paper!!!!

If the company or product devoloper is a sorta active member of the BBS I dont mind them saying hey look at what we devoloped, if your want one give us a call, or come check out our new website, or even hey work is a bit thin check out our sale... as long as its not every day with in reason. esp. if they are a sponser

But I have to tell ya... it is un-nerving when people we have never meet before, nor had an interest in our website to come hocking there cars and wares here...if its in the classified section thats fine, But I always want to give members of our own family the oppertunity to say... hey I need to make some cash, You wanna buy this? and help me out.
Prop

I was thinking at the UKs spridget 50 at gaydon, they had a car they where trying to install an engine in in record time... it had like quick didconnct hoses and some special 1/2 turn mounts of some type for the engine as I recall...

Is my memory correct on that?
Prop

Not really relevant but we managed an EVO7 gearbox, transfer box and rear diff change in 27 minutes during a 30 minute service at the Cork20 Rally 2 years ago.

There were 3 of us on that though and we all wanted a days rest afterwards.

Im definitely game for giving the 31 mins a go with a midget. Chances are it will be a steel fronted midget with all original mounting positions and no quick release stuff.

We shall see.

Prop - hope I dont appear like that - that is my intention whatsoever.
PeterJMoore

Guy. No not on my own.

I normally have the assistance of my 14 year old helping me do it.

He did however take his first engine out of the old race midget when he was 10 years old, and I stood by and oversaw it (some will no doubt say that is still what I do). He did it on his own in just under 2 hours.

So he knows what to do and when to do it and we just seem to work together really well on those occasions.

Not sure I'd fancy tackling what James and Dave did in a paddock at a race meeting though, that does take some effort.

A.
Andrew McGee

Andrew, I wasn't casting any criticism - just interested. Its's good to work like that "as one" with your son. Gives a good feeling.

My best time from a running engine to engine and gearbox out on the floor is 72 minutes. That is working on my own with a standard bonnet to remove first, but a few minor modifications to things such as radiator mountings to make things easier.

It takes me about 1 hour 35 minutes to put it back together again!
Guy Weller

"It takes me about 1 hour 35 minutes to put it back together again"

Don't tell my wife that, it took me 6 months.
Mike Allen

Guy, I knew you weren't casting criticism. I think we only got it down to 31 minutes because we were getting rather narked that it was the third time that day we'd had to take it out to try to find a noise coming from the bellhousing area.

We'd left the gearbox in though, although in all honesty it wouldn't take much longer to "pull" the gearbox with it - just those two damn bolts to sort out afterwards puts me off removing the box if we don't have to.

It took us 92 minutes to build up the back of two engines (flywheel and clutch assemblies) and then get the race engine back in and running.

We need to change the back end of the spare engine to have the same flywheel and clutch set up so that we can have a simple swap over should we need to (perish that thought tho!).

Getting back to the original thread, this sounds a bit like M.G.World of Wilmslow. The website appears very professional, but the truth is it's just a standard lock up garage behind a house. It's full of mostly rubbish and the guy who runs it, or ran it ( I believe it's now changed hands) was clueless. Caveat Emptor.

Bernie.
b higginson

>>>>>>>>>I believe it's now changed hands

Thank goodness for that, I was fed up of being blamed for his mistakes just because we have the same first name LOL!

>>>>>>>>Anyone want PopUp Awnings, banners for car shows, vinyl graphics for race cars, exhibition stands for classic car events (Max! :D)

Andrew, you had all my marketing/racing budget last year, there's nothing left this time!!! (But it was great value for money and I thoroughly endorse his products)

If we're blatantly advertising, come along to the gin palace in Traders City at MG Live and you'll see what Andrew can do, as well as a nice range of racewear and accessories :-) Bring beer, I'm not racing......

Max max-at-midgetmax-dot-com

To follow Andrews & Max's shameless advertising I will follow too:

If you want your house painted to Dutch standard(THE highest standard in the world!!!! honestly!) call us!!
Were not cheap and probably more expensive then Prop but thats because I have a RUNNING car to maintain! LOL!!!!

All profits are donated to midget parts-suppliers. :)

Please dont call as I rather drive my midget on a beautifull day. ;)
Arie de Best

Arie, you got that right, a good (house) painter is worth his weight in gold!

I got real lucky many years ago when I hired a guy for a quick job on a whim (literally, he was stopped beside me at a light, and I got his card because his car had "Christensen's Painting" on the door). Not only is my house the best painted one around, now all of my neighbors, and a few folks at work use him!
