MG Midget and Sprite General - A Midget for the boys racers!

I was going through some of my old photos and found this little beast. It was racing at my local track back in 1992.

All I know is it's a white Midget with a green engine and it's got big wheels but I do remember it wss quite quick.

Liking the Mallock on 3rd photo!

Does the other thing have some pedigree? I just thought it was another ugly home built open wheeler that managed to sneak into my photo.
Greg H

Nice mid-engine set up too!
Steve H K-ser

pleased you noticed that too Steve

I was a while trying to work out how the engine had so much room I had almost convinced myself the wings and front end was longer until I spotted the heater and battery tray was missing. LOL

Hi Greg
That there Midget belonged to David Wells, it was reasonably quick,it had fiberglass panels but was still not ultralight. I scaled it once and from memory it went about 560 minus driver
I think it did a 1-09 or 10 at Symmons and I think a 6 or 7 at Baskerville
I believe it lives in Victoria or NSW now
I can remember the clubman in the pic. it ran 1275 Midget motor/gearbox and diff. It belonged to John Dawson from Hobart Don't know where that is now
David Wells also used to run a MGBGT V8 a dark green rubbernose which went quite well

Good to know a bit more about it but not as quick as I thought it may have been, although tyres weren't as good back then. Pity we lost another car to the mainland.

Greg, The "other thing" is a Clubmans car it might be a mallock U2, but probably a home built special,

Interesting, I think the first time I saw this car was at the MG NatMeet in 2000 at Newcastle? Very nice bit of gear, good to see older pictures of it.

Andrew/Greg
At a guess I would say the pictures were taken at or around the time of the Natmeet in Tassy in I think about 92 or 3 ish That's about the only time these cars would have been together

Greg
Just out of curiosity you wouldn't happen to know who has my old racer' it's down your way somewhere
Wouldn't mind a few bits off it for my new one if it's laying about.
Thanks

Willy, It was just a local MGCC meet. You can see the date in the bottom corner of the photos. 13 Dec 1992. I have a few more photos of the day but no more Midgets, mainly MGB's, Minis and a few cars from the Hobart Sporting Car Club.

Sorry can't help with your car as I haven't been in the MG scene for many years. With the "BP dover" sponsor perhaps Ron Webb who used to run the servo kept in contact with it? or someone in the MGCC?

I was thinking of rejoining the MGCC but realised they realy only want my car, not me. First page of the application form was in depth details of the car, with the owners details after that on the second page. Obviously for MG owners it's the cars that make the club not the people. lol

Greg H

OK Thanks I'll chase Robb Webb up
I tend to agree a bit about the membership app. form, it probably needs rejigging a bit to make it more personal first and car second The Hobart centre has quite a few social activities nowadays, it could still be worth a look for you. You can download the mag. with coming events etc. from the MGCC Tas website if you were interested to see what's happening ---
