MG Midget and Sprite General - '78 Midget Electrical Problem

Our 78 1500 Midget has the following problem(s).
-No fuel reading, with fuel in the tank the reading doesn't move.
-No water temp reading, the gauge doesn't move at all.
-No instrument lights

Could it be the Voltage Stabiliser has failed ?
Has anyone had the same problem ?

Thanks, in advance.
Graham

the instrument lights are not on the same circuit as the gauges themselves

If the bulbs are ok and the failure is recent try checking the condition of the dashboard earths and the bulkhead earth wires

The instruments get their power from the ignition circuit, possibly off the green wire off the ignition switch or maybe off a green feed from the fuses. Check whether the green wire is disconnected

This is a potential source of failure, must be worth a check. Fuse or the connection with the fuse box, these wiire ends can get a film of corrosion that prevents curent flow

I hope this helps you track down the fault

Your voltage stab could be faulty, I am not sure whether your version gets its temp gauge power from the stab or not

sorry Graham

Thanks for the ideas Bill, I'll give them a try.

Usually only the fuel gauge is wired through a voltage stabiliser and if it packs up I think you get a lot of needle flutter.
