MG Midget and Sprite General - 2.5 years on - the blue one rises again!
After failing it's MOT in January 2008 with a broken leaf spring and then spending the following years waiting for decent springs to return to the market (but then finding an original set in one of my spares boxes) and then donating a few parts to the old race car and then donating the one piece front to the new race car. It's finally back on the road as of today! Instead of the one piece, we've reverted it back to steel wings, front panel and bonnet. It will need to have some panel work done to it over the course of the next couple of years. The rear wings are showing signs of the dreaded rust, the A posts likewise and once those have been done a full paint would be a nice touch. Looking back over it's history file, I recall it we put it back on the road on the May Bank Holiday that the world lost Roland Ratzenburger and Ayrton Senna (can't really forget that weekend!) in 1994. The MOT Tester said he was surprised at how solid the car is underneath, so it's nice to know the apparently poor body work is only superficial. This is the car that we sold in 2000 and then bought back again in 2005, some of the longer users of this BBS may remember me saying that we'd seen it on Ebay and intended buying it back again to add to the others we had then. I've only driven it to and from the MOT station today, which is in the same village we live in and it was a wonderful drive even at that. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology I've just taxed it (for FREE!) and so when I get back from a few days away I hope the tax disc will be in the post so we can take it out for a little bimble around the local Pennine roads. No doubt this wonderful weather will have gone by then and I'll have missed the opportunity. So that's two Midgets done so far this year, one more to do but then again that's a very long term project as others always seem to push in front of it. We've to get the engine and box out of the race car yet as the release bearing appears to have collapsed and there's a small matter of the timing chain breather cover to weld up to stop my own version of the BP oil leak. Whilst that is going on the Jubilee BGT failed it's MOT on the dreaded Castle Rails, so that's undergoing some major work currently - but to be honest that is what decided my mind to get the Blue Midget back on the road again as it was a quicker fix than the B. I love this hobby, I really do! Andrew

Good news, Andrew. There's nothing better than a Midget for the Yorkshire twisties! Cheers, -:G:-

Congrats Andrew! Would be great if you have the other midget running too before Midget 50 in 2011. The whole McGee family in two (road)midgets!

No Arie, I intend bringing the race Midget down to it and Jen can drive the Blue one down hopefully. Andrew

The race midget? On a trailer or what? If not that will be one bumpy and loud run from Yorkshire to Midget 50(forgot where it exactly is). Could be fun on the motorway tho. :)

On a trailer, whilst it is or could be road legal there is no way that I want to use up the engine hours just by going on a long drag strip. And we do need to take our accommodation with us! :D
