MG Midget and Sprite General - 2012 Sprite Midget USA Calendar
| Seth Jones has done an outstanding job on the Spridget calendar, and he got the picture I sent in only a week or two ago into the larger calendar (June) for which I am thankful. See it here: 11x17 version http://www.lulu.com/product/calendar/sprite-midget-club-calendar-2012-%2811x17-open%29/18659145 13.5x19" version http://www.lulu.com/product/calendar/sprite-midget-club-calender-2012-%28135x19-open%29/18659144 If you look at June on the larger calendar you can see my son Peter and myself in the green Frogeye Midget (we're out front!!!) | Hey Rick, how's it going? Seth did a decent job, but there's a good reason he doesn't post here any more. Very similar to the reason I won't be buying a 2012 calendar. He was kind of run off for failing to respect or credit other folks hard work http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=110&subjectar=110&thread=2011052000134818457 He took Gerard's logo, which is clearly marked with a copyright mark,I'm not sure he has the proper release to use it. When I questioned Seth, he kind of blew it off, so much for morals. Quote AmishIndy Gerard designed the 50th logo, jim johnson designed the club logo. yeah, he does have some things to say about it. IMHO he has more than some things (sic) to say about it, he owns it and using it without leave is theft JMHO Phil |

Phil I respect you and believe your heart is in the right place. The only thing I would have to ask is where is Gerard's complaint? I've read your words here and elsewhere but have not heard Gerard say anything. He posts regularly over at the BCF, I would think he would have said something. All that I've read looks like baseless accusations, since I have seen no proof that anything wrong was done. "Gerard designed the 50th logo, jim johnson designed the club logo. yeah, he does have some things to say about it." Frankly this could mean so many different things I can't really begin to speculate. What I can say with certainty is that doing the calendar for our "organization" is a terrible task and anyone foolish enough to volunteer their time and effort to do it should have their head examined. Oh - and your link didn't work.

Gary & Gaps said: "Search under archives for "Spridget Family tree"" Thanks Gary, I just read the old thread. One thing I've learned and I am sure many here have also learned is that in our global LBC community we have "all types" (prop). It's hard for many to understand and relate to some people and so we generally are (or try to be) polite and respectful to each other, accepting faults as we would like to have ours accepted as well. While I see and understand the trouble many people may have with Seth and I understand why some people would have a problem seeing what seems to be "yet another" example of free wheeling use of other people's property without express permission being granted and displayed in blazing neon letters... I really still have to come back to my point. Is the current situation the same as the one in that thread? Are the only rights imagined/thought to have been violated Gerard's? If so then why don't we just ask Gerard? Why haven't I seen anything from Gerard anywhere saying he objects? Are the pictures in the calendar there by permission? I know that the one I submitted is there by permission of the copyright holder John Seaman because I asked for it and received permission specifically for use in the calendar before I sent the image to Seth. Again, is the calendar something that belongs to Seth? Did he make that claim anywhere? Is any possible profit going to be sent to Seth or is it going to the Sprite Midget Club USA? Is it an official Sprite Midget Club USA calendar and as such does the right to have the logo design on the club web site carry over to the calendar? As I said, creating the calendar is apparently not something any sane person would freely give their time to. No pay, hard work, chance of serious injury - quite the advertisement to take the job. As I remember it Dave decided not to do the calendar again this year and there was a call out for a volunteer. I have no knowledge of what transpired afterward except that Seth seemed to step up to the plate. I assumed (correctly or incorrectly) that he was given the authority to go ahead (however that might be given). A calendar has been made and the statement has been said that profits however meager will go to the Sprite Midget Club USA. If the Sprite Midget Club USA logo / emblem is the only thing in question here then lets get to the bottom of it by asking whoever is responsible for it's use. Obviously it's being used on the website. I think we should stop "guessing" and then laying blame and publicly campaigning against someone who may not have done any wrong in this specific instance. That's just not the sort of behavior I have come to expect from our group.

My problem is and always will be that someone like himself calls himself and tries to give the impression that he is some sort of Guru!!! I will be in my grave as will many others a long long time before he gets anywhere near such an accolade! It is no different to a nigerian scammer, or someone on ebay selling a car and using a picture of another vehicle. It's called fraud in the UK what you call it in the USA I don't know?
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo
So he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Who doesn't do that from time to time? I know many here have done that and so have I. If you will go and re-read the thread you will find that he rephrased it there saying something like "guru in training". I don't have a problem with that. Also calling yourself a guru certainly isn't fraud - you should be a bit more careful with your terminology. Would it be making much of yourself? Certainly. Fraud? Certainly not. If you call yourself a Surgeon and you print up a nice bunch of degrees and frame them and hang them on your wall and then you start performing operations on people and it's all a lie then yes you would be guilty of fraud. There's a difference between the two - I hope you can see it. If he prefaced the word "guru" with "self professed" would there be such an outrage? It's quite possible that he calls himself that tongue in cheek. Geez sometimes you all should just relax a tad bit. Okay, he offended people. I get it. So is there a time when you let it go and forgive a guy for being an idiot? There are certainly enough of us who are idiots at least sometimes. Maybe not you, but certainly I fit that description.

So back to Phil's question. I contacted Gerard and asked him to please look at the calendars and say one way or the other if he had any issues at all with them. Here is Gerard's response, with his permission to post: "I hold the copyright for the 50th logo, but not the club logo; that Jim did not feel the 50th logo appropriate for a 2012 calendar and so was not considered for inclusion; that that I haven't seen anything else in the calendar that anything to do with me" If you still have a problem with the calendar or think there is something to discuss with Gerard about it I suggest you contact him directly. Rather than post about what you think or feel on the subject, I suggest and request that you stick with facts. Fact: Nothing of Gerard's is being used inappropriately, according to Gerard.

As I stated earlier, with permission from the owners of the art work, I have no problem with the calendar. In fact I think Seth did a good job. My beef was Seth's apparent cavalier attitude towards other peoples property. Thanks for clearing this up by emailing Gerard, however I still feel that Seth had that responsibility, both legally and morally before he printed the artwork. Phil

From the comments made to me by Gerard it was communicated between himself, Jim and Seth and the matter was settled. He seemed surprised there was still any controversy at all. It worked out in the end and in my view the calendar ended up right as it should. All's well that ends well. I know we all have something to learn in communication with each other, and some people may be a bit behind the curve (cough cough... Seth). So I'm happy we all can work things out peacefully, LBC people are the best people and I know we all will work it out in the end. Now - I've got a new rust free shell just delivered from Southern California I need to get to work on. It's an RWA Midget!! I even got a pair of doors and a couple rear shockers and a pair of rear springs in the deal for an extra $60. Peter and I are going to build a new car out of it!! Should be ready by the time he gets his driving permit.
