MG Midget and Sprite General - 1969 midget film link
Recently saw this on tv in Italy, which is bizzarre for all sorts of reasons. Should be interesting for everyone on here, its a tracking shot of the midget production line circa 1969 by jean luc godard as part of a documentary called "British Sounds". Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tBLQEriebs or search british sounds godard make what you will of the politics (probably best left alone for here:)! hope you find it interesting Mike

The next section of the film is, um different. And somewhat bizarre. It's hard to see how the two relate. I thought the competition would be to identify the date from the cars! American spec, cars. I thought they would have been made in batches all the same colour though.

Better sound off... Both American and European Spec cars. The ones with the lights on the back part of the front wing were not American Spec. I found it interesting that they appeared to be assembling both Sprite and Midgets on the same lines. If you look closely, about 1 in 3 or so didn't have side trim. Earlier pictures I have seen had LHD Sprites on one line and RHD Midgets on the other, or vice-versa. Colors were always a mixed bag, depending on how the bodies came off the trucks.

Mike, Thanks for posting. Interesting they kept the sounds of the actual assembly line, windy tools and all. Can only imagine this clip with proper narration of the work being performed, looking for my car all the while. Regards, Larry C.

wow, fantastic footage, thanks for posting. Smoking on the track, no overalls, how times change. Wonder if there's anyone who was there at the time or knows anyone in the film or has more info. If only we could buy a new one now eh?

<<Smoking on the track, no overalls>> No ear-defenders, either!
Dave O'Neill 2
DW A number of employees of the MG Car company are members of the MG Car Club. It would be worth them having a look if they have not already done so. I didn't realise how disgusting the smell of cigarettes was until I had stopped smoking for a year or so! :) As you say no ear defenders, good job the company stopped trading many years ago otherwise there would be solicitors lining up to sue the pants of the MG car company for causing its workers o become deaf. If only we could get rid of this blame and claim culture our country would be a far better place and perhaps children could once again enjoy school camps and outings.

Robert, There you go again, being sensible. We have pretty much the same culture here, "I did something stupid so it must be someone else's fault".
Martin Washington
Bob didn't you go through the phase of enjoying passive smoking for at least five years? I know I did!
Dave O'Neill 2
Great video! Really gives you an insight into how they built them. Did you see how that guy threw that radiator in (8:04) No mucking around there. If only I could go back there with a big bag and stroll through the place.
