Hi Angus Nope - didn't work! You're SO lucky - I had to wait for years for my Midget. Silly questions are more than welcome - the technical threads are full of them - there is also the world of information in the archives, as well as on the websites of the clubs - and - nothing better than Haynes manuals. Good luck :)

cheers il try i hope this is a better link
A Dewar
Hi Angus You don't need to put the pics into photobucket Put them on the desktop and click on the upload button at the bottom of this text box, then click 'browse', make sure that you're browsing the desktop then just double click on the pic you want to upload then hit 'submit'... Just make sure that your pics aren't too large... Cheers, John..

Usually photobucket does work - but it just said unrecognised or some such .... Not bad - not too bad at all - you're going to have some fun!
rachmacb
me and my friends have had a look and there is not much rust as its been dry stored. i come from a mechanical area as my farthers daily driver is in pieces on the drive, my uncle has a few kit cars. the guy down the road has an origanal lancia stratos and a bit further is ik racing which you may of heard of as they race mg's. i work at a vw transporter modification and service garage and my friend is currently restoring his mk1 scirocco

Angus It looks to be a very nice Midget with a very nice hardtop too... It should be quite an easy re-build!!! John..

Angus. If IK is just down the road from you then you must be about 15 minutes away from us. If you need anothe reye casting over it just ask. Andrew

nice car Angus welcome aboard When you put the bits back on the road dont try to fit the pink tubular thing, absolutely nothing on a Midget looks like that... :-) I think you will have lots of fun with that, really, a nice car
bill sdgpm

A few tips: Haynes or a workshop manual-for all the torque settings How to modify your midget/ah sprite by (our verry own) Daniel Stapleton -for everything you want non standard Tuning the A-series engine by David Vizard -aimd at tuning the engine and focused on mini's but it is the same engine and give's you a big insight in the basic principles. |
Onno Könemann
LOL Onno- you've not been the youngest for awhile - not since Seth came along - you just pretended! Sorry Angus - I COULD have warned ya about the pink bike, but, hey, initiation is always fun to watch :) If Andrew is offering to help you out - then accept it. Hope you get it roadworthy by next year and are out driving it on your 17th - and - don't forget to bring it down to Midget50!!!!!

To make that link work, you'll need to paste it into your browser's address field, and then replace the "%20" between "MG" and "Midget" with a space. Some web servers convert spaces to "%20", which causes problems as seen above. My advice as a web designer is - when you create an online resource of any kind, use underscores instead of spaces, and you'll avoid any issues like this one. Again though, nice car! -:G:-

My God!!! Is that Jimmy hoffa sitting in the passangers seat...LOL I wouldnt worry about not having insurance until your 17, it will take that long just to UN-bury the car LOL Seriously you've go a great project to work with, Im looking forward to seeing the progress. So what will you start with 1st, a bike rack perhaps? LOL. Prop

Finally someone my age to bother the geezers a little. Actually they are incredibly helpful. they are the only reason my car can start without having to drop the clutch. and they are why i have a new tranny and front brakes (the drums on the otherhand are gonna be a pain) you are VERY lucky that its not a rust bucket like mine. seriously. get driving it (or someone elses if yours is gonna be out of commission for awhile), that will make you soo excited that you wont be able to stop working on it! im also glad that i am no longer the youngest. soo much pressure. but it sounds like you are MUCH better with cars than i am.
Seth Brecklin
cheers gryf hope this works then http://s950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/angoosay/mg_midget/ seth im not legaly aloud to drive yet so ive got to wait a year so im getting the mg done for then so i can hopefully drive it on my dads licence angus
A Dewar
Angus, You can't drive a car using someone else's driving licence, you have to have a valid driving licence in your own name.
Adrian Jones
I'm hoping that he meant drive the car on his dad's insurance.
Gary Lazarus
I'm sure he does too. One thing though - as soon as you can possibly, possibly afford it - and do check around with ALL the specialist insurers, even if you have to take all the restritions on mileage etc - do get it as the years you build up on someone elses' insurance aren't so easy to transfer. If you join a club as well, and go for your IAM as quickly as possible, these give discounts on insurance too.
rachmacb
yea incurance for me is a pain but il get round throgh it some how like being a named driver on it. also is http://www.mgocspares.co.uk/ a good shop as at work we have trouble with larger companys selling rubbish. cheers
A Dewar
Do check out the main classic ones too - they aren't "generalists" so will perhaps have a more enlightened view towards young men! Yes, that's part of the MG Owners Club, and their parts are good - not the cheapest around though, but at least you get a good part with a decent warranty. It really depends which parts you're wanting though, as there are other companies, also a good classifieds section in most of the three clubs, and, of course, lots of people on here often have parts that you can source as well. Of course, everyone has a different experience with a place, so you will probably get good and bad reports about each one :) However, if you want - ask around before you buy and see what happens. Mark and Andrew are (were!) local to you, so they will also know some good places around you as well - not everything has to have the MG Logo on it ;)
rachmacb
I tired to post this 3 times last night but it wouln't let me, MGOC - It's the biggest for MG parts, join to get discount - you do not have to sign up for the magazine subscription if you don't want to you can be a MO 'Member Only' Also parts from - http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Browse/ComponentMenuProducts.aspx?WebCatalogID=39&PlateTypeID=1 Buy yourself a copy of this before you start - http://www9.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgocregalia&id=206851277250767&mode=item&itemid=0058&cat=Handbooks and perhaps get someone to buy you this as a present then you'll know alot about the parts and where they go http://www9.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgocregalia&id=206851277250767&mode=item&itemid=0016&cat=Parts%20Lists (note drawing don't always show parts in correct order of fitting) Depends what parts you want as to the quality, some parts are cheap and well made other parts are cheap and poorly made Rule of thumb if an origanal part is working or of such a good condition that it can be reconned or refurbed then stick with it, if a new part looks poorly made then it probably is Electrical parts particularly can be great fun, never assume that because a part is new that it is working properly Good ignition parts here - http://www.distributordoctor.com/ Take your chassis number if you know for certain that the car is very original otherwise just month and year built The guys on the counter can not be expected to know every MG part (MG made lots of different cars over the years) so don't expect them to You could take the old part in but don't assume the old part is correct (check parts catalogue on-line if no one's bought you a copy) Original tooling for a few parts are with -http://www.mgcars.org.uk/ah/

A flea market sale of the items in the garage will free up space AND get you some fixing money!

Maybe giving the car to Angus is Dad's way of getting the garage cleaned out.

Hey Angus, welcome to the wacky world of Spridget owners.... As mentioned above, you'll get lots of advice on here, some good, some not too good, you'll have to weed out the good from the bad. Andrew who is down the road from you Races a Midget and does very well with it, he'll be a good friend to have for parts and contacts.... (You may even get to a race meeting or two with him and his family). I moved from North Yorkshire to Australia in January, but brought a Midget and a Sprite over with us... Once you have it on the road and it's driving as it should, you'll have a lifetime of fun with it....! Enjoy... :-) Mark.
