MG Midget and Sprite General - 1275 sports exhaust from Moss

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has any experience with these exhausts?

http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=1558

How do they compare with the Maniflow systems? Are they loud, or REALLY loud?

I'm after something that sounds good but not obnoxious, preferably not too expensive (would consider mild steel and just a back box if that's possible), any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Henry

Alternatively, have a good look through some of the performance mags/internet sites - and get one of them.

I've had one before, nice and fruity sound, not overly loud but definitely not standard. I used it with a LCB manifold. Used with a tuned 1275.

I'm very happy with my maniflow LCB and pipe married to an RC40 back box. This is on a frogeye so fairly simple. It has a deeper sound than my previous standard set-up, sounds better but also seems less of an ear ache on long journeys. I do use earplugs for extended motorway driving.

We use GEX3429 silencer (MGB rear) on our A series cars. Cheap, sounds great but ont too noisy. 45mm inlet is reasonable size for Midget, and the pipe being offset towards the bottom helps with ground clearance.

I had that Moss system on for a good few years. My experience was that over a few years the wadding would disintegrate and get progressively louder. I had 2 back boxes and both went the same way.

When new it was quite loud....and by the end was quite raucous & harsh. It fits very well.

I still use the stainless pipe between my LCB and RC40.

Henry,

I have this system in mild steel on our MK III, which is what Moss USA offer and like it as well. Pleasant sound, and looks close to original pattern. At 1,500 miles annually now, it was a good price and figure it to last many more years.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I like the look (and preice) of the GEX3429 at the moment, I think this may be the one for me.

I've got one of these, with Moss 3 branch. Just loud enough and crackles nicely. when terry horler drove my car a while ago he came back saying "why doesn't mine sound like this?"
John Ruderman

How load any given exhaust sounds depends in part on how much power the engine is making. What's quiet on one car might be loud on another.
