Austin-Healey Sprite - Sprite Fuel Gauge working backwards
| Hi I'm (VERY new to this Brit car thing) I recently bought a 1962 AH Sprite MKII. The fuel gauge was not working - so I bought a new sender unit. When I tested the sender the gas gauge works - but BACKWARDS. JUST wondering IF I can (without crating a smoke show) reverse the green wire and the green/black wire on the back of the fuel gauge to fix this problem??? Any help/advice would be GREATLY appriciated! Thanks Barry |

| Yes it will not do any damage to reverse it.If it was wrong this should correct it. Trouble also could be failure or mis alignmentof a one of two coils of wire inside gauge. It's a long while since I repaired mine,if you have a meter that will test electrical resistance measure each terminal to the case, both should be about the same If one coil is faulty there will be a difference of resistance of about 150 ohm Also the resistance between the two terminals should be around 150 ohm,but if this is much lower it shows the internal resistor is at fault, this part only causes inaccurate readings. I have repaired my internals, but not a job for the faint hearted as means stripping gauge down and has rather delicate parts inside. Hope this all makes sense!! Patrick |
