Austin-Healey Sprite - 'Pinking'
Can you help me...my 948cc engine "pinks" only when it is warm...the static timing is on TDC....I am using ordinary unleaded fuel...new engine rebuild 1000 miles ago...

Are you absolutely certain that it is pinking and not increased lifter noise? If it really is pinking, it could be from sharp edges in the combustion chamber, sharp valve edges, or a dramatic increase in combustion pressure. It could also be a stuck advance mechanism in the distributor, or an imporper curve for any engine modifications that could have been made. Was the camshaft degreed upon installation?

Many thanks Jeff...sorry about delay in responding...camshaft was timed/degreed on installation...and yes it is pinking..and noy anything else..Ian
