Austin-Healey Sprite - engine oil cooler
My son has my 1960 bugeye now and it still over-heats. My question to you Healey guys from an MGA guy is this: Can a 13 row oil cooler (MGB/MGA) work on a 944 engine? More importantly will it help cool this small engine? What additional parts from the later year Sprites or Midgets would be needed to make this work if it can be done? Thankyou for your help... Tom

I would suspect a flush out or a recore of the rad and pipes would be better. I run an original down-flow rad on a 1275 engine and as the system is clean it manages to keep the engine cool. You might (if you aren't already using it) replace the water with 25-50% antifreeze or waterwetter. Also try replacing the the four blade fan for a later one with more blades on.

I have the same setup as Gary except that I took the original fan off and run an electric one in front of the radiator. If the cooling system is in good condition there is no reason why these cars should overheat. I've driven mine in southern California and places like Montana and North Dakota in the summer and have had no problems.
