Austin-Healey 100,100S,100-Six - gas tank repair?
| Just got my first Healey after years of daydreams, It has been sitting a long time, first project is to clean the gas tank, anybody have any good methods? has lots of crud in the bottom, no rust throughs on the bottom but the DPO left the battery on the tank so I've a small hole on the top, think some epoxy will fix that. My thought was a hand full of nuts and some new gas shaken thouroghly should work. Maybe a trip to the $.25 {now $1.75 in our area} car wash . DO the coatings for the inside of the tank work? Seems like that would be trouble later if it didnt stick that well. Thanks Jeff |

| Wow, not much activity on this BBS! If you're still out there, I would just soldier up for a new tank. They don't cost that much and when you consider the problems down the road, it's money well spent. Coating the inside of the tank is not recommended. The coating will lift off and plug the pick up tube. Ask me how I know... Epoxy is at best a short term fix. Like I said, a new tank is in your best interest. I had one made for my car, about 28 gallons! |
